he really really wants this, and is willing to fight his base on it....

Judging from his history, I agree with you. In 2000, he ran on a platform of "comprehensive immigration reform," replete with a guest-worker program. When he got elected, he was all chuchily-muchily with Vincenze Fox and was set to push for this program, but then 9/11 happened and he had to explain to Vincenze Fox that it would be necessary to go slow on this stuff. Then in 2006, he tried to get it through but was defeated by the Republican-controlled House. After the election, he said that one good thing about the Democrats getting control of the House was that "comprehensive immigration reform" stood a better chance of getting through.

So he was always for it - but had to postpone it for a while.

The attitude that they(the illegals) are already here and we have to give up and placate them is BullShi...and should not be agreed to by anyone.

@@@@@

Mark Steyn has a terrific column (so what else is new!) in the latest edition of National Review. I haven't checked if it can be found on line.

"An army of peasants defeated the soi-disant hyperpower. America's closest allies -- the Australians, say -- periodically seek some modest advantge for their citizenry in return for their steadfast support, and generally get nowhere. But a population the size of Australia's simply moved across the border and, despite huge public hostility to the strains imposed on local education and health care, the U S government simply shrugged. There's nothing we can do except give in.

It goes on in brilliant fashion to say that "peasants" is not being used in a pejorative sense but to reflect what happened with some help from inside the perimeter-- the business class and the political elites.

My dad supplies natural gas to the Azteca Milling plant in Plainview, Texas and to their one in Edinbergh, Tx. as well. Azteca is owned by Gruma SAB de CV in Mexico.

I was talking with one of the guys my dad does business with about 5 years ago on a business trip I took with him to the Edinbergh plant.

There is no middle class in Mexico...you have the wealthy...and you have the poor.

The rich there look down on the poor...don’t want to deal with them...don’t want them messing up the view on the drive to work.

So instead of dealing with the problem...the government ships their poor to this country nd to them they’ve “dealt with the problem.”

It’s why you’ll never be able to get Mexico...unless there is a huge shift in thinking in that country...to work with us on illegal immigration controls. We (the U.S.) are the answer to their poverty problem.

But don’t think for a minute that Mexico doesn’t believe in border enforcement. 50% of the Mexican Army is stationed in the south of the country and their sothern border fence makes the Korean DMZ fence look like barbed wire strung between two sticks.

Chris Matthews just called Fed Thompson ... The Southern Fried Candidate for the republican party

&&&&&

For some reason, Chris Matthews openly voices contempt for people born below the Mason-Dixon line. I think he should be called a placist, a la racist. His comments are “unacceptable.”

They are very revealing of a very prejudiced person.

Where I live they have a “hotel” I kid you not they call it that where they put the illegals waiting to see if they will be given legal status of some kind.

There is another big centre just outside London at Croydon this is not just your problem but any developed semi full employment western country.

We have added to this the legal influx from Poland and Bulgaria since they have joined the EC. In fact most dentist are now Polish because they cannot get work in their own coutry and our dentists will not operate in the NHS because they do not get the finacial rewards so if you want a NHS dentist then you will have to find a Polish one.

A local company of our industrial estate employs about 95 per cent non English people most hardly speak English and the local stores have started to stock Polish and Hungarian food to cater for them.

You know I spent 3 weeks in England this spring and it was really intresting listening to English people talking about their Illegals.

We have an illegal alien problem. England has an Islamist illegal alien problem. That's enough to send shivers down one's spine!

Good find, I especially noticed this:

'Married to the state'

Despite the strong family support, the prevalence of single parenting among Hispanics is producing the inevitable slide into the welfare system. "The girls aren't marrying the guys, so they are married to the state," Dr. Sanchez observes. Hispanics now dominate the federal Women, Infants and Children free food program; Hispanic enrollment grew more than 25 percent from 1996 to 2002, while black enrollment dropped 12 percent and white enrollment dropped 6.5 percent.

We are importing and creating a permanent underclass.

"The high school dropout rate is a long-standing, widely used indicator of youth educational outcomes. Teens that have dropped out of school clearly face an array of disadvantages. They are paid significantly less in the labor market and their employment opportunities are diminished. Their opportunities to enter postsecondary education are severely curtailed. Dropout status is also associated with numerous socially debilitating behaviors, including illegal activity, teen fertility, and idleness (National Center for Education Statistics, 2001). Dropout rates are also frequently used to benchmark school system performance. They are one of the few secondary school indicators published for every state and, unlike educational achievement measures, the public widely understands and accepts the norm that the statistics are attempting to capture. "

In 2000, about 530,000 Hispanic 16-to-19-year-olds were high school dropouts, yielding a dropout rate of 21.1 percent for all Hispanic 16-to-19-year-olds (U.S. Census Bureau, 2003). The Latino youth dropout rate was more than three times greater than the 2000 non-Hispanic "white alone" dropout rate of 6.9 percent. As a measure of the future schooling and social and economic prospects among teen populations, these aggregate status dropout rates clearly underline the disadvantages that Latino youth have, on average, upon entry to adulthood.

Hispanic students have higher high school dropout rates than White or Black students.

Suggestion to add to your list to better cement the credibility of your issues:

use his given name, George

Civility and respect can only add to the dialogue. Jumping in with the crowd who resort to mockery and cheap and easy slurs diminishes the issues, and perhaps marks you as just another “one of the pack.” Stand out .. there’s a way to disagree with his positions without being disrespectful to this man who’s dealing with so much 24/7 for us.

If you heard, had to live with, and strategize the threat matrix like he alone does every morning, and bear the burden of those decisions daily, maybe you’d not have perfect pitch on every other issue either.

So why don’t you clean toilets now?? It’s not because your too lazy like you accuse other Americans, its because you have added to your skills and are paid accordingly. Just like the rest of America who has passed entry level jobs. Labor is a tight commodity that is valued according to its rarity.

I am not attacking you personally, I am saying that you are uninformed when it comes to labor intensive industries. Fact is you could never have done some of the jobs that Mexicans are doing. Not because you don’t want to but because you are a woman and can’t lift those weights and you were not available during school hours.

Take my challenge and interview some farmers w/o your bias. It’s not that easy to find workers who work hard and show up on time. I talk to owners all day long and that is my bias.

Pray for W and Our Troops

The thousands of {what I assume are} illegals I have come in contact with are excellent workers. They show-up early, work hard, are not unwilling to stay late and seem very thankful for the work.

And as an extra-added-bonus because they’re here illegally the employers are, for the most part, bullet-proof when they need to or just want to fire them!

Excellent post here!!
The idea that we have to roll over and play dead just because we ignored the law of the land for many years and allowed 20 million illegals to come in is stupid.

As I said before it will not be just the low skilled jobs that go.

Unfortunately there is not an answer to it and I had to agree with my company’s policy to keep a small number of UK employees and the company to remain trading they had to start a joint venture in China and import the majority of our subcontract goods.

They did not want to do but bottom line is they are in business to make money. They are not prepared to pay more for goods and wages than they have to mainly because their customers will not pay more for their goods.

My company did however keep design and development in the UK if in a more scaled down manner but many companies have not even done this.

So on one level I agree with them I also find it sad and this will happen in your country on a greater scale than it already has when companies can no longer employ cheap labour.
