llegal Immigration Foes Target Senate Offices By Nathan Burchfiel CNSNews.com Staff Writer June 01, 2007
(CNSNews.com) - Senators enjoying a week-long recess in their home states are being targeted by opponents of illegal immigration who are expected to deliver thousands of petition signatures opposing the Senate's comprehensive immigration reform proposals.
Volunteers with the conservative activist website Grassfire.org on Thursday began delivering petitions to senators' home offices opposing the immigration bill that the Senate will consider when it returns to session June 4.
The bill would give illegal immigrants a chance to remain in the United States by paying fines and undergoing background checks. It would also create a guest worker program and increase efforts to secure the U.S. border with Mexico.
Conservative opponents of the bill say it gives illegal immigrants "amnesty."
And as Cybercast News Service previously reported, the bill has also come under fire from liberals who believe its punishments are too harsh and that the proposal does not address the underlying factors that create incentives for immigrants to enter the U.S. illegally.
"Time is so short on the amnesty debate," Grassfire President Steve Elliott said in a release. "We needed to move quickly giving citizens an opportunity to sound off against the proposed amnesty legislation while also getting them personally involved."

This immigration bill is crazy, it will not work and will just make things worse. If we can’t get the fence built along the border, keep locking up the border patrol agents for doing their job and can’t keep track of the illegals that we think we deported, how are we going to administer processing millions of Mexicans(and families)that want to work/live here? Our congress critters are out of their minds.
“The bill would give illegal immigrants a chance to remain in the United States by paying fines and undergoing background checks.”
Fines that may be “waived at the discretion of ________.”
Background checks that must be completed in 24 hours or the applicant is automatically granted a visa. It takes days to run a legit background check on a US citizen.
It all sounds acceptable until you look at the details in the bill!
I read where the Asst. US Attorney in the Ramos and Compean case, Debra Kanof, convinced a dozen donuts that it is not the Border Patrol’s job to “apprehend or pursue” border crossers.

Don’t do this. Every call that comes through on this line is counted as a vote for the illegal immigrants. Don’t do this.
Yes, please forgive me, I have been told I’m wrong. It’s fine to call the number.
Is that true? How could that be true if those calling through it express their opinion against the bill?
I should have read your retraction before posting my comment. Hmf.
There are ONLY FINES if the want to be US Citizens. Most will not because they will have legal status, and no incentive to be Americans. They can become Union members, and get benefits.
That’s okay, I should have done more research before I posted my remark! Red faced.
Yeah....coming to street corner near you...
Try the Savannah office. they are not their but you can leave a message. Call early on Monday, you will probably talke to human-I have called all of them! I called my Senators-turncoats and I called my rep as well. I am especially upset with Chambliss. Isakson’s office told me Johnny came to Washington to end the statur quo and do something...my reply. Johnny was elected to represent Georgians. This bill is not acceptable to Georgians. Thus Johnny better not vote for it.
How do you KNOW this?
