Youre not fat, kid. Youre just extra-huggable.
So say the svelte members of the Massachusetts Legislature. Its hard to imagine a bunch more qualified to address childhood obesity than those paragons of clean living and virtue on Beacon Hill.
Nobody denies that weve started supersizing our offspring. According to the Mass. Public Health Association, 29 percent of Bay State children are overweight or obese, and the rate of childhood obesity more than doubled in the past two decades.
However, during those same two decades, the lifespan of the average American has increased, and the rates of cancer and heart disease have plummeted. We may be bigger, but were also healthier.
But legislators rarely pass measures like the Americans Seem Pretty Healthy And Happy And We Should Probably Leave Them Alone Act of 2007. Instead they swipe our kids Cheetos.
And so Beacon Hill lawmakers this week debated a proposed ban on all marketing of snack foods and soft drinks in public schools. They also discussed limiting the size of some snacks to minuscule portions, and banning the worst ones (i.e. the ones kids actually eat) outright.
Meanwhile, Rep. Alice Wolf and Sen. Edward Augustus are co-sponsoring legislation that would turn physical education classes into a comprehensive health curriculum covering nutrition, disease, violence prevention, family life, human sexuality and (my personal favorite) interpersonal relationships.
Its not the potato chips, Tubby. Its the relationships.

So, if I call someone “fat” it’s “Hate Speech”?.......
They aren’t fat, they are fluffy.
My son is 14 and eats constantly. He is also blessed with a super-sonic metabolism fueled by high energy sports and play. He limits himself to video games & TV only after dark. If the sun is shining, he’s outside. Gosh, I wish I could keep up with him!
Oh yeah, and I try to keep the junk food to a minimum.
Pretty much how my folks raised me and 5 brothers in the 50’s and 60’s.

Not a logical conclusions. The adults that are living longer today were not fat kids. In their childhood they played outside, rode bikes or walked where they needed to go, did not have all of the junk food kids eat today, and were not parked in front of a TV or monitor for hours each day. More and more kids today are presenting with type II diabetes, a problem not seen in today’s adults when they were children.

When I was a kid, the phrase was ‘big boned”. Actually, I thought I was a dog, because all my clothes were sized “Husky”.
:-)
...Yep - and any other cause was "it's glands".
Well, the bones had better be big to carry around all that fat. :=)
They aren't fat, they are gravitationally gifted.
