A man diagnosed with a rare strain of tuberculosis will be flown to Denver for treatment at the National Jewish Medical and Research Center.
This morning, officials at Denvers National Jewish Medical and Research Center werent sure when the now world-famous TB patient would arrive for treatment.
"I think theyre still figuring out how hes going to get here," said hospital spokesman William Allstetter. The unidentified patient was transferred from New York to Atlanta on a CDC airplane.
Allstetter stressed that National Jewish, which is world renown for treatment of respiratory and immune disorders, is well-prepared to handle the case.
"We treat about a half dozen very drug-resistant TB cases a year," Allstetter said. "The doctors know how to take care and isolate people and weve never had any trouble with people contracting that disease (from a TB patient like the Atlanta-area man)."
The patient will be treated in a isolation ward thats specially pressurized so air only flows into that the room, he said. Air within the room is pumped through a filter where ultra violet light kills any airborne bacteria.

He may have a *cough*
.
A man with a form of tuberculosis so dangerous he is under the first U.S. government-ordered quarantine since 1963 told a newspaper he took one trans-Atlantic flight for his wedding and honeymoon and another because he feared for his life.

The man told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that while doctors told him they preferred that he put off his long-planned wedding in Greece, they didn’t order him not to fly.
He knew that he had tuberculosis, but didn’t think he was a danger, he said.
“We headed off to Greece thinking everything’s fine,” said the man, who declined to be identified in the newspaper because of the stigma attached to his diagnosis.

Why is this 2007 version of Typhoid Mary granted anonymity?
Health officials worry about “multidrug-resistant” TB, which can withstand the mainline antibiotics isoniazid and rifampin. The man was infected with something even worse — “extensively drug-resistant” TB, also called XDR-TB, which resists many drugs used to treat the infection.
There have been 17 U.S. XDR-TB cases since 2000, according to CDC statistics.
It shouldn’t be too hard for any competent news organization to identify this guy, we know most of his itinerary, we know he got married in Greece, we know he flew back to Montreal, rented a car and drove to New York. Lots of fodder for investigative reporters, if any of them are interested in a challenge.
Denver...just like in The Stand.
Wouldn’t it be a good idea to quarantine his new bride for a few weeks as well?
This idiot was told not to travel in Europe and yet he took flights anyway to Canada then drove across the border into the U.S. so he could get married. Way to go! A public stoning sounds about right!
If we get Hillary’s ‘free’ health care here, then there will be another flood of illegals from all over the world.
Coffin? Urn? Why are they moving him, what is the risk assessment madness in that? Oh, unlimited tax dollar budget.
Seems logical.

This seems confusing if he was legal :
Montreal, rented a car and drove to New York
Illegals and the 'poor' already get free health care. Just go to the emergency room some night to see ...
This strain often arises naturally from cases of ordinary TB, as the bug develops resistance to the drugs being used to treat it. This is probably not a case of an imported disease.

I know, which then causes you to wonder how it is ALL OF THEM seem to have decided at the same time not to identify the man.
It begs the question “Where did HE get the TB from?” must have been someone else here in the states, I hope they grill him on this.
