Mironov Tells Kyoto Experts The World Is Getting Cooler
By Simon Shuster
Staff Writer

Sergei Mironov

ST. PETERSBURG -- It was a failure from the start. Russia's biggest conference on the Kyoto Protocol, which aims to fight global warming, began with a speech from a top official who denied that global warming even exists.

"In reality, the scientific basis for the protocol is fairly weak," Federation Council Speaker Sergei Mironov told a crowded opening session of the two-day conference Thursday, which drew more than 200 environmental experts and carbon market participants from around the world. "In the opinion of many experts, the emission of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere does not have any effect on the climate."

On this point, Mironov stands on the fringes of global scientific opinion. A growing consensus has formed among top scientists and politicians, who have been warning governments to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases being spewed into the atmosphere. The Kyoto Protocol, first signed in 1997, created a system of financial incentives for doing this.

He should have checked with Pelosi first. Apparently, she “saw the climate change” first hand.

A growing consensus has formed among top scientists and politicians,

Definition: Top scientist, someone involved at some level in any branch of science, who is willing to support the claim that there is a global crisis made by politicians who also claim that their seizure and control of business, resources, and technology is the only way to avert or lessen the crisis.

Note that without the "consensus" of "scientists" the claims made by a bunch of politicians and leftist political activists would not have even the illusion of scientific credibility. The "growing consensus" is just a fig leaf to hide the nakedness of the leftists' lust for control.

“which is why people believe the left over the right in matters of science”

The Left ALWAYS believes what feels good, and this is what modern science has evolved into (just turn on the Discovery channel or National Geographic channel), real science is based upon truth, not feelings. Please read some more.

"I really think this BS bubble is finally going to burst.. "

Don't bet on it: the rest of the article is apologism for the cult of global warming, citing anonomous "top scientists and politicians - convenoently not mentioning that vanishingly few of the members of the "consensus" are meteorologists or geophysicists etc.

Have you picked up your copy of Unstoppable Global Warming: Every 1500 Years by Avery and Singer yet?It is out in trade parperback and I got mine last week. It is great. Very heavily footnoted with the peer reviewed science to help put the stinker in the outhouse on this deal.

The kids at the local public high school don’t seem to have gotten the environmental message; they are incredible litterbugs.

Don't leave out Scientific (un)American. They are right up there with the leaders.

Nope, just felt like it sometimes. Back in the seventies we had some spells when it was well over 100 for a week or longer with steam bath humidity levels. We haven’t had weather that miserable for a long time and yet we keep hearing on the weather channel that it is “hotter than normal”, I don’t believe a word of it.
The temperature today is in the eighties with humidity in the forties and it is almost the start of June. I have seen times when the first week of May was hot enough to make today seem like heaven on Earth.

I think you have confused Growth with Growth Rate. Indeed, the Growth Rate has declined since the mid-60’s, but World Population continues to grow, and is not expected to head downwards until the middle of this century.

Oh, I know it. I grew up on John’s Island , south of Charleston (no, I don’t speak Gullah). I was just wondering what town in SC was getting all the high temp records.

What most don’t realize (in the enviro wacko crowd)...is that as the earth gets hotter the CO2 rises. Not tha CO2 rises causes the earth to get hotter.

In fact, on Planet Earth they had a thing about CO2 is trapped in water. So it would seem to me that has the heat rises the CO2 gets released from bodies of water causing the increase in CO2.

“OMG! Four years of private school education and they can plant trees.”

Consider her lucky!! If she spent 4 years in a Public School, she would have nothing to show for it but the ability to place a condom on a cucumber!!

Yes, Scientific Un-American had a cover story in 2001 (I believe) stating that finally a real transitional fossil had been found (indicating that there had not been any prior), but lo and behold, this reptile-bird thing turned out to be another fake. This time by an enterprising Chinaman who sold them his glued together creation for some hard currency. The magazine did not issue a retraction I am told.

As it has been said before, “climate change” = “the weather,” and the weatherman can’t even accurately predict the weather next week.

Sometimes, the Russians are refreshingly practical. On the other hand, walking around in Moscow is like sucking straight from a Greyhound tailpipe. You can literally feel the pollution in your lungs. For the Russians to employ a comprehensive pollution-control strategy, they would go bankrupt in a hurry. Or even more bankrupter.
