Just ONE day....set aside for a REAL reason....to Honour those who have fallen in the defense of Freedom.....to Honour those who have fallen in the defense of their Nation and their Families...your Families. It seems to me it gets each year it gets less clear as our own government changes its meaning with their program. Memorial day is not a tribute to the victims of 9/11 or the troops in Iraq or the victims/passengers of Flight 93. MEMORIAL DAY IS FOR THOSE WHO GAVE THEIR LIFE IN WAR.
It took our country 60 years (far too long) to build a WW-II Memorial and I heard there are going to be, I believe, 184 benches on the mall in Washington. One for each passenger of Flight 93. HUH?

I put this on the last thread but I wished I’d checked before I went to church tonite. The sermon this morning was sadly lacking ANY acknowledgement of why we have Memorial Day. It really bothered me.

~Memorial Day~ Flags today in tribute wave For those loyal ones who gave Of their youth, their hopes, their might For a cause they knew was right.
Morning bells sound their call, Pause and say a prayer for all-- All who served valiantly That men might be ever free.
Toll of bells, drums' slow beat-- Silence falls in every street. In each heart swells the plea: Keep us safe, but keep us free!
