Russia's threatening ways

By Helle Dale May 23, 2007

If the shoe fits, wear it, as the saying goes. Maybe the same could be said about the jackboot.

At the anniversary ceremonies for the end of World War II on May 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin compared the supposedly expansionist behavior of the United States to that of Nazi Germany. In reality, however, it is Russia that's acting out at the moment, targeting countries previously under Soviet dominance with increasingly threatening behavior.

The most recent case of Russian bullying is little Estonia, which has been on the receiving end of major intimidation. The alleged cause was the removal on April 27 of an unprepossessing bronze statue of a giant Soviet bronze soldier, located in central Talinn. It was yet one of those provocative imperial monuments that Russians liked to leave all over their former empire, and the decision to move it to a military cemetery seems an eminently reasonable one.

On the same day, however, Russian-inspired demonstrations, allegedly in outrage against this putative disrespect of the Soviet heroes of World War II, broke out across Talinn, resulting in 153 persons being injured and one death. The following day, the Estonian embassy in Moscow was attacked by an angry mob. Other Estonian embassies were also targeted, in Helsinki, Oslo, Stockholm, Riga, Prague, Kiev and Minsk, as well as the Estonian consulate in St. Petersburg.

At least some one gets it!

I’m surprised Pelosi didn’t fly to Russia for the celebrations. Maybe Michael Moore can make a movie commemorating these celebrations.

“Russian-inspired demonstrations” is the total lie.

The message of this article is “we can do everything to Russia but Russia has no right to defend her rights”.

This article works just for alliinate the whole population of Russia. I don’t know what the purpose of the author to put whole blame on Russia but Russian people can read such article and resent them as the usual westren hyocricy and prejudice. As result we just push whole Russia away of West.

“Russian-inspired demonstrations” is the total lie.

What are you talking about? Finns and Swedes inspired it?

What rights? It's a statue, it has no rights unless you ask a bronze hugging liberal.

You are getting increasingly absurd on this topic.

"Russian people can read such article and resent them as the usual westren hyocricy and prejudice."

Will the Russian public read the article in question in the Putin controlled press & Russian TV stations, plus the Kremlin controlled Russian Internet's news websites?

Maybe Pravda or Tass will tell the Russian people the 'truth' lol

Russians rally against TV stations

Is Russia Going Backward?

"As result we just push whole Russia away of West."

The Putin dictatorship has already pushed Russia very far from the West and in turn the Kremlin is allied with Iran, Syria, Cuba, Venezuela and also jihad terrorist such as Hamas and Hezballah. The Evil Empire part II.

RUNet is the most quick expanding community. It has about 40 mlns of subscribers now. Everyone may read everything. Me for example I participate in FR few years already. I started it when I lived in US and continued when I returned in Russia. Do you think I’m alone who has Inet connection in Russia?:)

After all the number of TV stations increases each day. Just recently they started EuroNews http://www.euronews.net/index.php on whole country. It is the 25th broadcasting channel in Moscow TV (I don’t know what number it will be in out of Moscow). But as we all EuroNews is the western news agency.

I told you before and tell it now that you know Russia only by the hundereds of propaganda articles like you referenced in your post but I’m an insider. You may not post to me no stupid article I know Russia firsthandly. And I tell you that you view of Russia is very very scewed. As result you mislead yourself in big way.
I tell you it is all just propaganda exxageration to say that Kremlin controls all TV stations in Russia. Just go ther eand cheack how many TV stations in Russia broadcasting in Internet. http://www.corbina.tv/ It is only part of all TV stations in Russia. DO you think it is possible to control all of them?

Comrade, in terms of TV in Russia, I am speaking of non-satellite, non-cable, non-Internet -- regular turn on the TV and what you get. The local TV stations being controlled by Putin & company.
