DOLE STATEMENT ON IMMIGRATION PROPOSAL
May 18th, 2007 - Washington, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole today made the following statement regarding the immigration reform proposal expected to come before the Senate on Monday:
While I recognize that immigration reform is urgently needed, based on what Ive learned so far, I would oppose this proposal unless it is radically altered, said Dole.
Last year, Dole voted against the Senate bill that included amnesty, and she continues to oppose amnesty. She supports stricter border enforcement, effective workplace verification, and a truly temporary worker program to fill jobs that American workers do not want in construction, agriculture and other sectors.
Background:
As of Friday evening, the final text of the bill had not yet been released. Based on what shes learned about the proposal, Dole is concerned that:
-Illegal immigrants could receive a special visa that could be renewed indefinitely; -Social Security benefits could be obtained on the basis of an expired Social Security number (as a result of overstaying a visa); and -the so-called triggers would not sufficiently secure the border.

Dole got plenty of angry emails and phone calls.
Burr is a McCain supporter.
I think he’s light in the loafers as well.
Fred's been drinking from the Potomac far too long. Fred and Mort's "Beltway Boys" show should be renamed the "Buttway Boys".
Way to go, Senator Dole! North Carolina should be proud of you for this.
Every single time I received those Republican Surveys from her I just sent them back saying NO MORE MONEY until you close the borders. I am sure that many others have done the same. Maybe she is starting to listen!
In calling both my Senators, I referenced that poll because Civitas is a dominant, conservative think tank based in Raleigh. If Senators Dole and Burr do not pay attention to that source, they are beneath incompetence. I asked both of them to contact me when they took a position on this bill. Of course, I have not heard anything from either one.
Congressman Billybob
Sean Hannity is W’s butt boy.
I emailed and faxed her yesterday. The gist of what was enclosed said essentially that the eyes of all North Carolinians and the nation are on the traitorous members of the Senate and House of Representatives who are foisting this piece of crap on the nation. I told Ditzy Dole that if she did not strongly resist this mess that she would be forever known as the traitorous Senator that finished off the republican (little r) party, AND the United States as well. I finished that by saying “ If you let this pass, God will have to forgive you, but I WILL NOT.”
Maybe my phone calls and e-mails helped her focus on where her constituents really stand.
“I just saw Fred Barnes on Foxnews praising Ted Kennedy and the immigration deal.
Sickening!”
Weekly Standard people are big time open borders//wage depression boosters.
When the National Review folks rebelled from the Bush line last year on immi the WS people were strained, got huffy, retreated into their la la land of thinktank hacks paid to develop ideas why their contributors should have government interventions to make them more money.
Amen, Brother.
If the Republicans are unwilling to keep this from coming to a vote in the Senate, or can’t defeat it in the House, this will fracture the party.
Some of the Senator’s don’t come up for a few years and they think we’ll forget about it. They have a big suprise coming if they think the Dummocrats won’t use it against them with the conservative base in 08’, 10, and even ‘12.
>I have a great idea. Lets cut all welfare to all able bodied Americans and they will have to go to work so we don’t need the mexicans. Done.<
LOL! (Sob!) You don’t know how right you are! I’ve overheard college boys talking about “living on the system” and how to do it. I guess they teach that in our institutions of “higher education” these days!
She’s been reading her mail.
She should simply say:
“This is why Republicans lost last time”.
“It is a terrible idea”.
Simple. To the point.
100% true.
Among other points there is a mechanism to circumvent *all* the triggers, buried deep in the bill.
And this wisdom comes from what source?
Barnes is an idiot. Illegal immigration is why I don't watch Beltway Boys anymore. Wonder what Walter Williams ....another overrated dope.... has to say about it
Interesting.
Yeah, I heard that myself. After 18 months, the amnesty begins whether any progress has been made on border security or not.
And you know damn well that no progress will have been made on border security in 18 months.
Also, the INS has 24 hours to do a security check and turn around a Z-visa application. The same agency that issued Muhammed Atta a visa 6 months after he was dead.
