WASHINGTON A bipartisan group of Senate lawmakers and the White House struck an immigration reform deal Thursday that would grant legal status to the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants already in the United States and increase border and interior enforcement initiatives. The plan would establish a temporary worker program for new arrivals to the United States with a separate program for agricultural workers. The bill also would include provisions for new technology to ensure against immigration document fraud. Supporters of the arrangement urged their congressional colleagues and the American public to support the bill as a whole even though strong objection may be felt toward its individual parts. "All of you know that in the legislative process, no one gets 100 percent of what they want, if you're going to get something done," Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz. said, speaking to reporters shortly after the deal was announced. "From my perspective, it's not perfect, but it represents the best opportunity that we have in a bipartisan way to do something about this problem. And if we had not gotten together as Republicans and Democrats to develop this bipartisan consensus, we can be assured that there would not be a bill passed this year, and probably not next year," Kyl said.

These traitors should be sharing a prison cell. Scum.
A shame...
I am from the South and we have already had a disastrous experiment in creating an underclass which did not share the same privileges as white people.
That is what would happen to Hispanics if most of the anti-illegals yelling “No Amnesty!” got their way and denied drivers licenses and public education to illegals.
There are some new tougher restrictions on which family members can come and join an immigrant, and a new emphasis on skills, from what I understand.
Jorge Arbusto and the Senate have just signed the surrender documents without firing a shot. Here is our new flag: The invasion of the United States by the criminal army of Aztlan is complete.
Perhaps it is me, but I just don' get it. How are we better off granting amnestyh to 20m law breakers?
You are surely joking?
Call, call, call and tell them how you feel! Tell them about the mayor in Hazelton.
“Without firing a shot.” I am ashamed of my party and president for giving our America away. If the Dims did it, I could almost understand, but not the conservative party.
AARRGGHHH!!!!!!!
HERMAN CAIN SHOULD HAVE WON, NOT JOHNNY ISAKSON!!!!
Hey, someone should’ve asked Saxby how his “good friend Jack Murtha”’s doing. Maybe he should quit being such good friends with him and start listening to his constituents.
Um, that was a group of people forcibly brought here, through no choice of their own.
Don't you think this is a bit different?
How about an anti-amnesty protest in all major cities??
That lying sack of scum. I just called his office, and Isakson’s staff said “he hasn’t finished reading the bill and
he won’t know if he supports it until next week.”
These guys are dead meat. Our state government is tightening up on illegals and they pull this stunt.
Don’t you just love that picture? Going to look good next election.
I really am shocked to see my Senators in that picture with Kennedy. I just assumed they would not go along with this bill. I guess a call or two is in store in the morning.
If the President had balls, he would declare a national emergency, and suspend all immigration. Period.
We are letting Illegals in here, many of them hell bent on killing us. This will just give them the cover they need to get the job done.
If Mohammed Atta was still alive, we would be giving him citizenship now? Give me a break!!!!
You and me both.
Too late to call today. I think I’ll join you in calling tomorrow.
Now, I think I’m going to post a link to this on the GA board...
You are essentially arguing for full US citizenship rights for anything that breathes.
For me, the issue isn't so much who can reside here, it's who pays for it. Let those who can pay their own way (and that includes healtchare, education, police protection, and schooling) reside here, as long as they obey the laws. But expecting taxpayers to fund their healthcare and education is both evil and unacceptable.
So, should we just dispense with borders altogether?
The senate.gov site is getting hammered. I can’t get in at all.
