PELOSI LOWERS THE BOOM Wed May 16 2007 14:43:59 ET
After losing a string of embarrassing votes on the House floor because of procedural maneuvering, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has decided to change the current House Rules to completely shut down the floor to the minority.
The Democratic Leadership is threatening to change the current House Rules regarding the Republican right to the Motion to Recommit or the test of germaneness on the motion to recommit. This would be the first change to the germaneness rule since 1822.
In protest, the House Republicans are going to call procedural motions every half hour.
Developing...
Now Pelosi just wants to prevent any kind of civil debate, or procedural maeuvering, because she will not compromise on her bills in committee. She won't cut any deals , and so finds herself out flanked on procedures. The MSM is squeamishly quiet as the Democrat party goes about its undemocratic work.
So her remedy is to take away the equity of procedure, and still not compromise her leftist agenda.
Well she is dead wrong there, and her true colors are now available for all to see. Keep it up Nacified Dems, and we will watch you tank!
I do not hear a boom lowering, I hear the thud of Dem feet heading for a quick exit after 2008. Yeah!
The Republicans need to go over her head, and speak to the American people if they want to end this. Though MAYBE their plan will work.
Don't say that so loud...Pelosi will order the burning of books.
Is history repeating itself?
You expected otherwise? They are pathetic traitors. And most GOPers don’t have the balls to stand against them.
Nancy, the pop-eyed Peron, strikes.

“let’s see what the msm spin on this is”
Psst—you will NEVER hear anything about this from the msm. Why would they make the public aware of it?
Yes possibly shutting down talk radio and now this.
While Gridlock may be a good thing, this does not bode well for the Republic.
When such forces push individuals in a direction they do not want to go, there is usually and equal and opposite reaction. Does anyone remember the reaction to the firing of 150 judges by Clinton and the perception that we had no recourse in the judiciary?
What will be the reaction to the fact that we have representation that has now been rendered voiceless? There are days I fear where we are headed in this country...
Where is Martinez of the GOP on this? What a Gelding!
That’s a great idea. Someone should send it to (the Minority Whip? ) - not sure who.
Great move, folks. I hope you're satisfied.
Why is Tokra blaming conservatives for the choice the Republican party chose to make? The republicans decided not to field candidates the conservatives would vote for. They Chose this, and all the blame is theirs. If you make a choice and then whine about the consequences you don't earn any sympathy.
Well, millions of illegals registered to vote or illegals newly amnestied would go a long way toward assuring a permanent Democrat majority.
frightens me too! hasn’t been changed since 1822 ? Yikes!

Pelosi’s Gambit [Jonah Goldberg]
Boehner’s office just sent this out:
DEMOCRATS TO CHANGE 185 YEAR-OLD HOUSE RULE TO ALLOW TAX HIKES WITHOUT HAVING TO VOTE
May 16, 2007
In a stunning move, House Democrats today revealed they will attempt to rewrite House rules that have gone unchanged since 1822 in order to make it possible to increase taxes and government spending without having to vote and be held accountable. House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) today vowed Republicans will use every available means to fight this unprecedented change.
This is an astonishing attempt by the majority leadership to duck accountability for tax-and-spend policies the American people do not want, Boehner said. The majority leadership is gutting House rules that have been in place for 185 years so they can raise taxes and increase government spending without a vote. House Republicans will use every tool available to fight this abuse of power.
Last November, House Democratic leaders promised the most open, ethical Congress in history:
[W]e promised the American people that we would have the most honest and most open government and we will. (Nancy Pelosi press stakeout, December 6, 2006)
We intend to have a Rules Committee ... that gives opposition voices and alternative proposals the ability to be heard and considered on the floor of the House. (Steny Hoyer in CongressDaily PM, December 5, 2006)
The rules House Democrats are seeking to change have not been changed since 1822.
Republicans have already achieved significant legislative successes on the House floor with 11 consecutive motion-to-recommit victories that exposed flaws and substantively improved weaknesses in underlying Democrat bills. But rather than living by the same rules which have guided the House of Representatives for 185 years, Democrats are proposing to change the rules in order to game the system and raise taxes and increase spending without a House vote. What are House Democrats afraid of?

A lot, but by no means all, illegals come here from Mexico. They threw out the PRI party after, what? 80 or so years of 1 party rule? They know the systems that 1 party rule can screw up...........
Maybe part of the reason she has trouble keeping everyone in line is the Dems who beat Repubs last year won in conservative districts. I think the term is the chickens have come to roost? I knew this would be a problem for them :)
