Warm temperatures melted an area of western Antarctica that adds up to the size of California in January 2005, scientists report. {That is the middle of summer in the southern hemisphere.}
Satellite data collected by the scientists between July 1999 and July 2005 showed clear signs that melting had occurred in multiple distinct regions, including far inland and at high latitudes and elevations, where melt had been considered unlikely.
---SNIP---
Evidence of melting was found up to 560 miles inland from the open ocean, farther than 85 degrees south (about 310 miles from the South Pole) and higher than 6,600 feet above sea level.

He got up without a word and left the room. There needs to be a book which one could consult so that we could gain that affect with any subject. Your entry should be featured prominently.

"California-Sized Area of Ice Melts in Antarctica"
Also in the article it said it was snow and not ice that melted and then promptly froze back. The difference?
No net lose of water to rise the oceans levels.
Just how many times do ya think this has happened over the years and nobody to notice it?

We were arguing about global warming but a different aspect (I don't remember what) of it and she basically did the same thing when I presented her with a bit of logic.

Antarctica has been cooling so how could there be global warming?
The Global Warmers treat this the same way they treat the Medieval Warming period that messes up their "hockey Stick" charts.
They ignore it and pretend it didn't happen....

"I asked our resident liberal here at work about this. I asked, "If there were glaciers 14,000 years ago and they have been receding ever since how did man cause this?""
You can also ask him why the Great Plains are flat and watch his head explode.

Why are all these so-called scientists completely ignoring the fact that our celestial neighbors (Mars for example) are also experiencing “global warming”? Could it be because any other cause beyond man doesn’t fit nor serve their ulterior motives?

"Uncontrolled nuclear reaction 870,000 miles in diameter appears off the east coast of the US every 24 hours".
Carries a little different emotional content than "The sun rises in the east every morning", doesn't it?

Now, for any ice to melt there has to be a 62 degree increase in temperature for a hell of a lot longer than a year. You weren't paying attention in 6th grade science class. It's called "sublimation". Sun shining on ice can convert from solid ice to water vapor. A little wind carries it off so the small vapor pressure keeps converting from solid to vapor. It is common to observe snow/ice with local melting due to dark soil or plants collecting sunlight even when the ambient temperature is well below freezing.
Still, the premise that global warming is the consequence of human activity is BS. There are no humans on other planets in our solar systen, yet they are warming as well. There is a common astro-physical phenomenon driving the change. It isn't human activity.

In 6th grade, I thought sublimation meant I was asleep.
Wouldn't the wind carrying the water vapor tend to refreeze and drop it as snow? Especially over a cold surface?
