Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., said during a presidential campaign stop Sunday that he isn't against immigration.
However, Tancredo is against illegal immigration - and its cost to taxpayers.
"Amnesty is coming down the pike," Tancredo said a group of about 20 people at a home in Davenport. "But its a slap in the face to all the people who did it the right way, and to those who are patiently waiting in line to legally get in."
Tancredo, who announced that he would seek the Republican presidential nomination on a Des Moines-area radio show in April, has gained prominence in recent years for his staunch stance against illegal immigration. He has said that immigration will be the main focus of his campaign.
Tancredo said Sunday that he does not apologize for his conservatism, nor for his belief that Americans are not just members of a region, but citizens of a country.

Damn straight. I AM AN AMERICAN.
Im thinking that when the congress and the president (small p) act on immigration reform and with a stroke of the pen, put a $1100 pricetag on US citizenship for 30 million (yes 30 million) new americans( small a), that this country will never be the same.
With chain migration and the expansion in illegal immigration waiting for the NEXT amnesty, it’ll be more like 80 million.
This won’t be our country anymore.

Agreed, but it's an even bigger slap in the face to ALL AMERICANS!!
I don't see how we can ever recover once they do that... it's rewarding anarchy and lawlessness in the worst way..
One thing about wanting various voices in politics, even if they have no chance of winning, is they help to steer the Party back to it’s roots. I am glad Tancredo and Paul exist. Maybe someday we can have Presidents who cherish America over “diversity.”

We won't be if Mr. first Mexican president Bush and his co-conspirators in Congress have their way. Welcome to Amexica. That will be his stinking legacy!
One note Tommy should stay in congress. I do like the fact that he alone seems to be pushing this issue in the debates. I would LOVE to see him go DIRECTLY after Mr. Multiculturalism (Rooty) on the latter’s support of Noo Yawk as a sanctuary city that has been “enriched” by the Third Worlders that make up the majority of NYC (check the census figures!).
Reagan and Clinton were not that much better than Bush on the immigration issue. Let’s be fair...
You're absolutely right, Clemenza, they didn't do squat to protect our borders or enforce existing laws either. I think Reagan at least regretted his decision, but by then it didn't matter, it was done.
30 million is a more accurate number.
the press and govt have held on to that 12 million way too long. too many more have added themselves illegally into the mix.
WRONG! Illegal immigration exploded under GWBush. Just ask those Columbians and Brazilians you love
Add in the anchor effect and we’re talking about 100 million or more.
that is 1/3 the population of the state of California
