After months of giving ambiguous signals on abortion, Rudolph W. Giuliani is planning to offer a forthright affirmation of his support for abortion rights in public forums, television appearances and interviews in the coming days, despite potential consequences among some conservative voters already wary of his views, aides said yesterday.
At the same time, Mr. Giulianis campaign seeking to accomplish the unusual task of persuading the Republican Party to nominate an abortion rights supporter as its presidential candidate is eyeing a path to the nomination that would try to de-emphasize the early states in which abortion opponents wield a great deal of influence. Instead they would focus on the so-called mega-primary of Feb. 5, in which voters in states like California, New York and New Jersey are likely to be more receptive to Mr. Giulianis social views than voters in states like Iowa and South Carolina. They said that approach became more appealing after Florida, another state they said would be receptive to Mr. Giuliani, voted last week to move its primary forward to the end of January.
The shift in emphasis by Mr. Giuliani comes as his campaign has struggled to deal with the fallout from the first Republican presidential candidate debate in which he gave a halting and apparently contradictory responses to questions about his support for abortion rights. Mr. Giulianis aides were concerned both because it opened him up to a new round of criticism from abortion critics who have never been happy with the prospect of a Republican presidential candidate who supports abortion rights while threatening to undercut his image as a tough-talking iconoclast who does not equivocate on tough issues.

Laura Ingraham took on Rudy early this morning on abortion.
She is a good representive of “the fetus wing of the party”
as we have been called at TOS
“....just as many Americans were killed on 9/11 in abortion clinics as were killed by the terrorist attacks.”
That is just stunning! And true:
“In 2000, a total of 857,475 legal induced abortions were reported to CDC by 49 reporting areas.”

assuming that abortionists work only Mon-Fri or a standard 240 workdays a year:
857,475/240 = 3573 abortions per day......MORE than died on 9-11
Don’t forget Alito and Roberts did not sign off on the Thomas written opnion that bashed Roe vs. Wade..
That is ridiculous! I've lived in the west for the last 31 years. You act as though the Republican Party is filled with libertarians. Its not. Within the GOP, libertarians are a blip on the political radar screen.
Btw, I see your still making THE case for Rooty`s candidacy.
You said — “It is an issue, but not a dealbreaker, for the rest of the electorate.”

I take it that you haven’t been reading Jim Robinson’s posts on Giuliani, then. And he’s not only talking about abortion...
Is that an actual shirt that’s available? And do you have a link? What a powerful statement!
The Republican Platform makes it clear where we stand on abortion, the details as you call it, your gross mischaracterizations notwithstanding. The reality is that when an unborn child is aborted, a human life has been taken. That human has an inalienable right to life just as much as fake conservatives like you do.
So, YOU shut up, you damned abortionist POS!
Go read Post 70.
Giuliani gets the nomination, the GOP self destructs. The country doesn’t need two liberal parties.
Who would you rather see get the nomination? Realistically, (at this point in time) it would be Giuliani. I personally don’t have a problem with him stating he would ‘support’ the laws in place as they stand today. He has respect for our laws and to say anything different would be meaningless. We all know the only way to outlaw abortions is via the supreme court. So ‘if’ Guiliani is our nominee and ‘whoever’ is the dem nominee, who do we trust will make the more conservative appointment to the SC?
I know the issue of abortion is the single most important issue to some. However if I had to chose one single issue that will determine who I will vote for come Nov. ‘08 it is national security. Guiliani is the ‘only’ person in the race at this moment who I would trust with my whole being when it comes to this issue.
I know I will offend some taking this stance concerning this article. We all have differing opinions and I respect everyone’s opinion and beliefs but when it comes down to it are we willing to turn the presidency over to a liberal because we don’t agree with Guiliani respecting the laws that are currently in place?
Less than a minute ago, that account was active. Mods very quick on the zot tonight.
“Rudy should make it clear he wont try to changed the party platform.”
Wow, that’ll do it! NOT...
No need to reply to motife, he or she has been zotted in record time...
“857,475/240 = 3573 abortions per day......MORE than died on 9-11”
How did we become such an evil nation? And how do we turn it around? I get so angry everytime I think of it.
Although I won’t vote for him, because of it, I will respect him more if he would just come out and be honest about it, and not just another political huckster hedging his bets.
BTW, this one is my favorite:
BZZZZZZZTTTTT! Another abortionist gets zapped! I don’t think another bit of bandwidth or server storage should be wasted again on this forum by any more of you traitors to the human race.
