DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Presidential candidate John Edwards said Monday it's silly to suggest that his wealth and expensive tastes have hurt his credibility as an advocate for the poor. "Would it have been better if I had done well and didn't care?" Edwards asked.
Edwards noted that some of the most acclaimed anti-poverty advocates came from privileged backgrounds, including Franklin Roosevelt and Bobby Kennedy.
"You could see and feel the empathy they had," said Edwards, speaking from his home in North Carolina during an interview on Iowa Public Radio. (snip)
His credibility on the issue has been challenged by critics who point to his 28,000-square-foot home in North Carolina and his $400 haircuts. He rejected the criticism, saying a look at history shows that personal wealth doesn't disqualify people from advocating for the poor.
"It feels a little silly to me," Edwards said. "This is an issue I care deeply about."
Edwards is the son of a mill worker who achieved wealth as a trial lawyer.
The mission of his campaign is to ensure that all Americans have a chance for such success, he said.
Careful, he’s touchy about his looks, and a ambulance chasing trial lawyer, he could sue for damage to his ego....(chuckle)
ooohh i get it the “two America’s” is OK then? LOL
Watch what you say. John paid dearly for that toilet seat. That’s why he needs to be president, he wants to milk the masses.
(chuckle)
You nailed it. He’s a disgusting hypocrite. He’s right from the Bill Clinton mold. A hugely egotistical person with delusions of grandeur. I would like to ask him to explain why it is fair that he keep money that he received through false claims regarding cerebral palsy. The Cerebral Palsy foundation recognizes that the original premise that CP is caused by birth anoxia is false. Yet Pretty Boy Johnny made bucket loads of money laying the blame on the obstetricians involved, and in at least one trial ‘channeling’ the unborn child’s thoughts about how they were ‘not doing well’ in the womb and ‘needing to come out’.
This is the same SOB that then states how ‘wrong’ it is to pass a ban on partial birth abortion. How about ‘channeling’ the unborn childs thoughts about being partially birthed and then having their brains sucked out, Johnny? He makes me sick.
Space cadet Edwards is right: wealth really doesn’t matter. what does matter though is some dipstick paying $400.00 for a haircut. I don’t care who you are, that one matters!!
I didn't know his mill worker father was a trial lawyer too.
"Journalists" just don't know how to write, do they?

“It doesnt hurt your credibility when you have NONE to begin with.”
So true. Yet, why does wealth supposedly only hurt the credibility of Republican and Conservative candidates?

Hah! Yea, I think I’ve heard that before.
Nope! No credibility problem here!
