Riot police fired tear gas at stone-throwing protesters gathered in central Paris today to demonstrate against the presidential election victory of right-winger Nicolas Sarkozy, an AFP journalist said.

The clashes took place on the Place de la Bastille where about 5,000 supporters of the defeated Socialist candidate Segolene Royal had gone to await the election results.

Up to 300 rioters, some of whom were masked, made running attacks on riot police who took up positions at the entrance to boulevards leading onto the square.

Earlier a small crowd of protesters, brandishing black and red anarchist flags, set fire to an effigy of Sarkozy in the square before tearing it limb from limb and then stamping on it.

Just damn. I’m going to Sarkozy’s crib. It is obvious who the intelligent, innocent voters are from this photo. Vive le France! Do they have a ‘chat’ room?

John Edwards’ wife pulled the same radical 60’s BS in 2004 as Royal had threatened:

“If you re-elect George Bush there will be riots and violence!”

Gosh, you always remember all her quotes. She was pretty mouthy.

I enlarged that gif and it made it a tad blurry.

Heading for bed, tomorrow’s another day!

Demonstrators lie on the road after the election of Nicolas Sarkozy, France's newly-elected president, in Paris, May 6, 2007

You Gorgonite Scum!
Maybe France isn’t such a Lost cause afterall?
Maybe this new Guy can start the investigations in Chirack’s corruption now??

that and a conviction would go a long way to getting on the right track.

“I bet the DUmmies are upset that they can’t be over there rioting with the French.”

Well, in some cases they say they are. But the most common comment is how “we should do that here”. But I think their use of the word “we” actually means “you” and not “me”. LOL! They really love to talk a good revolution. But as to actually getting off their asses and conducting one? Never gonna happen. Besides since so many of them really dislike guns, they would be hampered in that regard. Our streets are safe from them.

In the land of the blind (socialists), the one eyed man (one with a brain) is king (or President in this case.)

The worlds press has gotten the note on labeling Sarkozy a "right-winger".
Here in Spain I've seen him referred to as "extreme right" by "legitimate" media outlets. Interestingly enough though the online forums are filled with messages supporting him and hoping that we'll soon have a similar change and trashing Zapatero for being a loser and most of all for going to France to support Royal. So let's see......tally it up...Zapatero's made enemies of the USA, England and he's working on Germany and France.

The liberal response to democracy! Royal’s message in her closing days seemed to be ‘vote for me or France will riot’. When the US Democrats start resorting to that kind of message, we’ll know that America has fallen a long, long way.

That said, I’m very happy Sarkozy won. I thin there might finally be a little bit of hope for sanity in this major European power.

“I bet the DUmmies are upset that they can’t be over there rioting with the French.”

Some of them are claiming the election was a fraud and that Bush/Cheney/Rove were behind it. Of course, they said that about the elections in Mexico, Canada, and Germany, too.

When does Sarkozy actually take office?

In nine days. He is set to succeed Jacques Chirac at the Elysee Palace on May 16.
