RIOT police fired tear gas at stone-throwing protesters gathered in central Paris today to demonstrate against the presidential election victory of right-winger Nicolas Sarkozy.
The clashes took place on the Place de la Bastille where about 5000 supporters of the defeated Socialist candidate Segolene Royal had gone to await the election results, an AFP journalist said.
Up to 300 rioters, some of whom were masked, made running attacks on riot police who took up positions at the entrance to boulevards leading onto the square.
Earlier a small crowd of protesters, brandishing black and red anarchist flags, set fire to an effigy of Mr Sarkozy in the square before tearing it limb from limb and then stamping on it.

This shouldn’t come as a shock to anybody, but let’s have some fun with it. We’ll all guess numbers and whoever gets closest to the number of cars torched in France because of this wins. I’m gonna be optimistic and say 100.
Funny thing is that I’ve already seen a liberal in this country questioning the accuracy of the vote count in France.
It’s only possible for the socialist to win elections. If they don’t, it’s because of Diebold machines or something that steals their votes.

It’s hard to argue with the vote count when your candidate gets blown out of the water. Don’t get your hopes up; had this been closer, they would be screaming about that, too. The left is not exactly known for good form when losing.

I chose this number because, based on who will be burning the cars, it is almost certain that an irrational number of cars will be burned.
It will be in the thousands. Two years ago it was a couple of thousand!
500 or so I say.
The sad part is that if Royal had won, there would still be rioting and carburning. Only the reason would change, from mourning to celebration.
