Thrilling race. Calvin Borel rode brilliantly and deserved every moment of the joy he experienced. Will experience.

Onward to the Triple Crown!

I sent out a 2 page fax and email to relatives and people I know who follow horse racing early today, before noon.
I said I could only eliminate TWO horses in this field of 20, and they were Bwana Bull and Imawildandcrazyguy. I didn’t really even mean that, expect Bwana Bull looked impossible indeed. I KNEW in a field this large with no heavy favorite there would be lots of undeserving longshots, and more than a few overbet horses who had no real chance. I also knew that STREET SENSE was the class of this field on every level, and unless he got stuck in traffic, would win. I knew Curlin would be overbet, and figured he might finish in the back half of the pack.In fact he ran very well, and is obviously a first rate horse would will probably run very well in the Preakness. The reason I didn’t thrown out longshot Sedgefield is because I run all kinds of numbers on horses, based on Past Performances, and he had the highest number for NUMBER OF HORSES HE BEAT in his last 4 races (35), and accomplishing that from almost exclusively outside posts. Today he was on the inside, stayed there and almost hung on to make it a huge payday for me which I didn’t get, thanks to the “Steve Martin” horse, since the finish was 7-8-2-11-1, rather than 7-8-2-1.

Calvin’s a cajun? I pegged him as Irish.

In #184, I got the numbers wrong. Wildandcrazyguy was not #11, he was #5, so the finish was 7-8-2-5-1, and I had 7-8-2-1; Regarding how you overlooked HARD SPUN-—I kept in Sedgefield because of that number horses beat angle, and also put HARD SPUN right up there. I added the # of horses beat in the last four races, to the HIGHEST Beyer figure of the last four races, and got final numbers to use as a guide. HARD SPUN was right there behind STREET SENSE with those final numbers, so I had no choice but to put him second.

Racing shoes are aluminum. To keep the weight light. Since they are done just for the race , too expensive and no need for titanium.

You only missed the Superfecta by one horse. Too bad you didn’t bet a trifecta.

What do you think of Street Sense? Does he have a chances of winning the Triple Crown in your opinion?

Nope. I am pretty sure he is from Breaux Bridge LA. That makes him as Cajun as you can get.

You had him all the way. I hope you did good. I had ten to win on him but I boxed him with 4 longshots that are still running.

OK, I’ll chime in. I just got back from Churchill Downs, about $20 up on the day. Only lost $7 on the Derby. I’m not a big better. Had a great time! (Other than the shuttle system out, which was pretty broken)

“Woulda, coulda, shoulda...”

About 15 years ago, when my youngest was a teenager, I watched CNN on the day of the Kentucky Derby. They had a “horse psychic” going through the entire list of horses entered in the race that day. She explained what each horse was “thinking” about the race...many horses said it wasn’t their day...they couldn’t possibly win. Afterall, their sun and moon wasn’t lined up for them that day.

The psychic finally got to one horse...a LONG shot! She said this horse felt “good” that day....all the planets were in perfect position, and that he would win. It was about 4 pm.

I’m not a gambler, but I looked at my daughter and asked her to drive with me to a race track, 15 miles away...that I would bet on him, but I didn’t want to park and walk a distance just to place a bet....she would stay in the car while I walked up to place a bet.

She said she had plans to go out with her friends that evening, and how silly I was to believe a stupid horse psychic! I thought...”How right she is.”

We watched the race together, and when the LONG shot won, she looked at me and said, “I am SO sorry, mom.”

I laugh about it to this day and wonder how I would have spent that money that I woulda, coulda, shoulda had!

I just noticed your location....I’m south of you in NJ. I would have placed my bet at the former Garden State Raceway at Cherry Hill.

woulda, coulda, shoulda..... :)

Good pickin’. Did you place a bet on Street Sense? Beautiful race!

Thank you. At the last minute I decided to put $5 on Street Sense to win and place. I'm glad I did, although I had a few anxious moments when he was 19th in the early going. That was quite a breathtaking move he made! Thrilling race.

ONE LAP? That’s it? I thought it was 400 laps?

Had to listen to the Derby on the radio and a horse race sucks when you just have to listen to it. Radio guy interviewed some celebs including Richard Petty. Asked Petty if he knew there were no cars there. Petty said he had heard no cars and the race was only one lap.

What a race by Street Sense.
