Thompson evokes Reagan legacy in speech

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. - Evoking the legacy of Ronald Reagan, potential presidential candidate Fred Thompson told fellow Republicans that smaller government and lower taxes are the way to a prosperous future.

The former Tennessee senator and "Law & Order" star spoke for about 35 minutes Friday night to the Lincoln Club of Orange County, sketching a broad agenda that hewed to Reaganesque themes — a strong military, a limited federal government and robust free markets.

Thompson also warned that people in the United States must be prepared to sacrifice in a world threatened by terrorism and hostile governments.

"Every generation has made sure that it did its part to make sure that it did endure, with the sacrifices they made. And now it's our turn," Thompson said.

It is refreshing listening to a PATRIOT who is interested in the future of America and its REAL citizens, as opposed to frothing socialist liberals who are only concerned with POWER AND CONTROL and do not give a damn about America and its people and preserving our freedoms.

What a HUGE contrast.

"meanwhile ... Mitt gains momentum after debate"

I wouldn't worry too much about Mitt, he'll step on it again.

“meanwhile ... Mitt gains momentum after debate”

LMAO! Have you seen the ratings. More people watched the Fox News analysis of the debate than the debate itself.

Mitt’s mired in single digits despite spending $13 million for a reason. He’s a country club RINO and a flip flopper to boot.

One thing about Mitt: he explains the problem with cloning and stem cell research well, even if it represents a flip.

Evoking the legacy of Ronald Reagan, potential presidential candidate Fred Thompson told fellow Republicans that smaller government and lower taxes are the way to a prosperous future.

Many conservatives are satisfied with just cutting taxes. That's only half the equation. Limited government means fiscal conservatism and that means tax reform and spending reform. FredT seems to get it. Bush43 and the GOP Congress spent the taxpayers money like big government liberal Republicans. A downside legacy no better then liberal Democrats.

Just when I was starting to think Thompson would be a fine choice, he takes back one of his best and bravest statements from the debate, that employers could fire an employee because he was a flagrant homosexual if they wanted to. So now he is on the side that says the government should force a Christian employer to continue to be represented in his business by a homosexual or face a lawsuit. That’s appalling. Employers can fire people for all sorts of stupid reasons. This one is not so stupid. If the issue is about privacy in your bedroom, KEEP IT THERE.
