U.S. Seeks Closing of Visa Loophole for Britons

Omar Khyam, the ringleader of the thwarted London bomb plot who was sentenced to life imprisonment on Monday, showed the potential for disaffected young men to be lured as terrorists, a threat that British officials said they would have to contend with for a generation.

But the 25-year-old Mr. Khyam, a Briton of Pakistani descent, also personifies a larger and more immediate concern: as a British citizen, he could have entered the United States without a visa, like many of an estimated 800,000 other Britons of Pakistani origin.

American officials, citing the number of terror plots in Britain involving Britons with ties to Pakistan, expressed concern over the visa loophole. In recent months, the homeland security secretary, Michael Chertoff, has opened talks with the government here on how to curb the access of British citizens of Pakistani origin to the United States.

"The paper reported that the Chlorine Institute, a trade group for the industry, recently alerted the FBI to stolen chlorine tanks in California. A 1,600-gallon tank of chlorine disappeared from a parking lot in Tallahassee, Fla., early last month, the Tallahassee Democrat reported.”

That is very troubling considering their use of this to make bombs in Iraq lately!

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “A school district in Washington state has reversed its decision to suspend 12 students who got in trouble because they prayed together. The reversal includes a meeting place for the students to begin a school-sponsored prayer club.

Back in March, the students at Heritage High School in Vancouver were suspended after they prayed together in the commons area of their cafeteria. School officials had received a complaint from a Satanist, who was upset over the public prayers. After being contacted about the matter, Liberty Counsel quickly sent a letter to school officials, outlining the constitutional rights of public school students.”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “The recent violent attack of an elderly woman at Central Mall has led police and mall security to up their patrol of the area.

A Sunday afternoon at the mall turned into a robbery and busted lip for 81-year old Jessie Ortiz. According to police, the woman was near the Target entrance of Central Mall Sunday, April 29 when a young man approached her from behind and grabbed her purse, throwing the older woman to the floor.

The man fled through the mall and exited near the movie theater. Ortiz did not seek medical attention for her injuries.

Major Raymond Clark with the Port Arthur Police Department, confirmed that the suspect was caught on tape by Target security. Detective Savoy with PAPD is working to enhance the tape to clear it up and get a better shot of the man police suspect of committing the crime.”

RE: Zawahiri video and his specific comments on U.S. troops in Iraq: Zawahiri just learned that U.S. presidents can veto legislation passed by Congress and that such a veto can survive if Congress lacks the appropriate number of override votes. They were accused of being connected to the armed separatist group, Eta.

The court ruled that a little-known group, Abertzale Socialistak, was in fact a front for the banned political wing of Eta, Batasuna.

The court is still considering whether to ban another political group, Basque National Action.
