Top Al Qaeda operative taken into US custody
10 minutes ago
The United States has taken into custody a top al-Qaeda operative who plotted to assassinate Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf and other officials, a Pentagon spokesman said Friday.
Abd al Hadi al-Iraqi, who was taken to the US navy prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba about a week ago, was intercepted while trying to reach Iraq to take over Al-Qaeda operations and to plot attacks from there against western targets outside Iraq, Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman said.
He is "one of Al-Qaeda's highest ranking and senior operatives at the time of his detention.

Did you see the article a couple of days ago talking up KSM’s capture? The guy’s first words to his captors was wondering when he was going to be flown to New York and have his attorney!
Too bad these guys know more about us then the dimwits in Congress know about them.
That would have made me SO SAD. He's SUCH a great FRIEND! /s
Musharraf has been a strong ally in the fight against Al Qaeda. Against the Taliban, it's a little more complicated.
Anyway there is no way in hell I would ever mock the failed assassination attempt of an ally of ours in the fight against Al Qaeda.
let’s turn him over to Pakistan. they’ll be swift and just with an attempted assassin, but before that they’ll get 10 times as much intelligence out of him than we could, what with our hands tied and all. give him the Jack Bauer treatment. he’ll wish he’d been at Gitmo.
He was intercepted while trying to reach Iraq. Did he travel through Iran or by sea? If the former is the case did he travel alone and was he given assistance?
Bingo! We have a winner. Mooos-limbs try to get the government to help them with this, then they will rely of power of the federal government to help them with other things, like their ‘freedom of expression’ so they can install minarets, and broadcast their calls to prayer, etc.
This is the camel’s nose in the tent!
The calls to prayer are MUCH different than church bells ringing. In their calls, because they are actually speaking in Islamic, they could be saying anything.
This just irks me to no end! I bust my tail putting in 50 hour weeks and haven't taken a full vacation in 3 years and this johnny-jihad gets a free ocean cruise to a beautiful Caribbean Island with a nice balmy ocean breeze -- on my dime!
Put panties on his head.
You got this right! This guy is a Big capture with tremendous HUMINT value. He was trying to get back to Iraq to lead the last stand of Al Queda....watch out Harry Reid, the worm is turning and your allies are going down!
BTW, what is the deal with all the joke-sters around FR these days?
I read a lengthy, detailed article in the Chicago Tribune the other day detailing what's involved in this bill. Perhaps someone has the article and will link to it.
You have no idea what this bill entails. The cost to the taxpayers will be enormous. Various shades of Islam religionists demand different religious rites and practices to be applied in food and meat preparation from the slaughterhouse and thence inch-by-inch along the route right up to the dining room table. The process is going to be unenforceable. It will cause chaos and enormous additional overhead in the food industry from food factories, slaughterhouses, warehouses, restaurants, supermarkets, the labeling industry, the packaging industry, you name it.
The various Muslim religionists are fighting among themselves already. Each want its own practices observed. There is no single agreed-upon halal.
Don't jump before you're informed, folks. If these kinds of bills are passed in your state you'll pay through the nose in price-raises at the stores and in taxes..
At least the Jewish kosher requirements proceed through the food chain relatively seamlessly, are not onerous, hardly fanatical nor are they a drain on the taxpayers.
Imagine the added inspectors/investigators/enforcers that will be needed to carry out these Obama-type legislative mandates. The enforcement will actually begin on farms and ranches, factories and food processing plants, slaughterhouses and greenhouses, supermarkets and small grocery stores.....all subject to fines and worse if they don't conform to every crazy requirement of "halal".
Not to mention the endless Muslim law suits against non-conforming businesses..........
It's not just a simple matter of labeling. It's just the beginning of the incremental power-creep we're beginning to notice in Islamic strongholds across the fruited plain.
Leni
He is a biggie..very big.
An average person, reading the original post, is going to say, "what's the problem with making sure that the food that is (voluntarily) labeled 'halal' actually meets the definition?" If people are going to use this as a negative on Obama, they need to explain it better.
With the Dems votes on pullouts, I can't help but wonder what AQ and Iran are thinking. I fear for the safety of our troops and eventually our country.
If marketing halal is economically not sustainable, then don’t market it, or market it at significantly higher prices, add on a cost or fee to the processor to pay for the state regulation/oversight. The processor will pass that on to the consumer, who pays more for what they want.
That’s how the process SHOULD work. I get the idea though that our towel-headed friends think the government should foot the bill.
Aw, what the heck. I’m going home for a ham & cheese for lunch. I don’t need halal.
See, those are not nice guys down there after all.
When are the politicos going to get it through their thick skulls that being “nice” to these terrorists is going to get us all killed!
That’s a hard one. He deserves to be doused in jet fuel then set on fire like he did to his victims on 9/11. To capture him would be a nice trophy but I don’t think that he would ever talk.
If A-Q could overrun either place, it’s how they could legitimize their terrorism into sovereignty.
Danger danger danger
Folks this is HUGE news may we get this put in Breaking News....this dude was VERY SENIOR...like in the top 10 of AQ.
