[Article] Convinced that Bush will never listen to their calls to bring troops home, senior Democrats have concluded that they must force Republicans to vote again and again in defense of the unpopular war until enough plead with the president to change course.

So that's it -- their entire strategy is to bet on a mass wimp-out by GOP Congresscritters, a capitulation of principle by the GOP congressional caucus.

If GOP'ers grow a backbone, 'Rats lose. And losers look like losers on Election Day.

Democratic strategists also believe that repeated votes on the war will allow the party to expand its congressional majorities in next year's elections

They're on drugs

If the Republicans continue to support the troops, and don’t go along with the Democrat desire to throw the Iraqi people to the Islamic wolves, I don’t think it will do them any harm at all, come the next election.

They are misreading 2006 badly... and I can’t understand why. There was only completely clear “stop war” vs. “continue war” vote: and Lieberman convincingly WON that in his very liberal state.

There is a lot a stack for the socialist. They have lost so much ground in recent times. The good old days under Kennedy and Johnson are long gone. To many repub POTUS and a brief controll on the hill has these snakes wondering how they can regain the ultimate control they held onto for so long.
Like a crazed scared cornered wolf they will do as much damage as they can to survive.
And with the new generation of kids coming out of schools that tend to think a bit more about how government effects them other then getting a social security check, the socialist are afraid their future plans are in jeapordy.
They no longer have the mindless for the most part blue collar workers to vote them in. So clever deceit like a snake is really imperative for them to survive.

What with the MSM going along with everything they want, and their nutroots applauding them every treasonous step of the way, I think they believe they can get away with their "defeat America" agenda. And people ARE tired of war; no one likes war, and no one wants to hear the statistics of the dead every morning on the news (and thanks to the damnable MSM for NEVER EVER telling us the successes!), but I think they're badly misreading this weariness as a desire to lose. Rather, I think it's a desire for full speed ahead to WIN NOW (or ASAP) and damn the torpedos.

Lol, not too many, or maybe it's an 'off' day for me!

Hillary speaks with 'copperhead mouth'?

Had to WORK to get that coin image out of Adobe!

The Democrat Party has a long history of treason during war. The party broke apart in 1860 during the secession crisis.

Some Democrats in the north were more conciliatory toward the South than Republicans. They called themselves "Peace Democrats'. Their opponents called them Copperheads because they wore copper pennies as identifying badges.

As today, they were for the war when things were going well and against it when things went badly.

The Copperhead leader, Clement Valladigham persuaded the party to brand the war a failure. The plot failed

Some things never change!

I have the feeling that this is all going to backfire on the dems.

I think you're right. Hell, I can't figure out how the dems can convince themselves of anything else!

They're right, though, that a lot of elected Republicans will lose their nerve sooner or later. Not many of them have more than one or two (soft and crumbling) vertebra to begin with.

In that case, come election time, expect voters to stay home in droves out of sheer disgust with BOTH sides.
