I thought I would put up this vanity for the benefit of those (myself included) who missed the recent 'dust up' over Giuliani.
Obviously, there have been strong feelings over the Republican candidates with te various sides knocking each other around on the issues and, unfortunately, on meaningless personal items.
Things came to a head about a week ago with Jim Robinson's post regarding Giuliani and FR's principles (the post has since turned into an undead/bugzapper thread). Ultimately, several Freepers (of various 'ages' - some old, some new) had their accounts terminated by request, opus, or zot (click here if you didn't understand the last couple of words).
I tried to wade through the thousands of posts in an attempt to determine where the 'line' was for getting booted from FR, given the fact that no strict Giuliani supporter 'purge' really occurred.
The best I can come up with is that it is fine to support Giuliani so long as it is not to come here to push liberal values of abortion, gun control, etc (see Jim's post) shared by the former NY Mayor, which directly conflict with the mission of FR. Those topics can, certainly, be promoted on other sites who's mission is to do so.
Basically, I think you can go ahead and support Rudy, but don't come here and try to convince FR to do a 180 on its mission and turn it into just another liberal or mushy middle site. The focus of FR has always been the opposite - convince others and refine the concervative message. Whey you visit someone's home, you abide by their rules, the same applies here. Its the same reason going to DUmmieland or Kos and trying to push conservative values (such as Zell Miller's) won't give you a long life expectancy on their sites.
Thanks for the link.
Because the other thread degenerated into a multi-faceted tantrum with all sides throwing food?
That list is a disaster. I see some major losses there.
Categorically untrue.
Some will be back, perhaps under a new handle.
untrue? There was a huge purge of members who were criticizing Bush.
I will be going nowhere. I am a conservative, and greatly appreciate everything Jim has done for us here.
Your link to banned freepers doesn’t seem to work anymore.
Rudy may not be a conservative, but W isn’t really one either, when it comes down to the basics. At least the way I see the basics.
BUMP
I think more left of their own accord than were banned.
All they have is lies. Rooty is a liberal puke and they know it.
They have to lie to say they themselves are conservative because no conservative could ever support Rooty.
If JR banned everyone who disagreed with W's policies, I would have been gone long ago.
Several of the recently banned were given the axe for denigrating Reagan.
Partly. There’s much more. I’m up to my neck in alligators at the moment, but as soon as I beat them down a bit, I’ll come back and post my comments.
Thanks for the update on this.
As far as I’m concerned, this is Jim’s living room and he is entitled to set the parameters of what is “politically correct” in terms of discussion.
I’ve avoided the politician threads anyway because they are so angry. In defense of those who spoke themselves into oblivion — I think we are all passionate to win this next one and tempers can get out of hand. Perhaps they’ll be given another chance, once they cool off and respect the wishes of our host.
Helpful. I was resisting the orginal thread, but yet curiously tempted by it’s enduring presence. You have relieved me of my burden.
Hmmm. Maybe I was mistaken, but I would have to look thru the old threads.
I could have sworn that at least one person on that thread was posting this AM.
Yea, there are some big losses on that list.
I avoided that thread like it was Typhoid Mary.
