That could be one of the reasons that they no longer require a language of 97E (Human Intelligence Collector).

And that raises still another problemthat just about every academic middle eastern program in the country is run by Palestinian lovers and other hate-America types. So, how do we train people in Arabic without turning them all into good little arabists like the folks in the State Department? Especially since the Saudis have a long record of funding these departments in elite US universities? First of all, I think Congress needs to investigate the way money is funneled to supposed 501, charitable organizations and educational institutions by foreign governments and consider legislation that prohibits funding, or at least eliminates the tax exempt status, of organizations that support the overthrow of our democratic institutions. Second, the government needs to consider strategic priorities in our educational system and channel money where it is needed to defend us as it did in the early days of the space program. That is, unless we can find individuals or institutions that will fund chairs of Middle Eastern and Arabic studies counter to what the Saudis are doing.

You can get a reprimand at an Article 15.

Okay, from what I’ve read, he only got a reprimand in his permanent folder.
I’ve never had the enjoyment of getting one, I grew up in the New Army, not the one of Old. Where you couldn't’t get promoted without having knocked some heads or had a couple reprimands.

Not according to the WWII vets I've talked to. Apparently there were several German towns in front of Patton's Third Army that were subdued in that fashion without any legal fallout.

I suspect we will continue to use Muslim translators rather than do the obvious thing, which is to train Americans in Arabic. What we should do is use Israelis, who speak and understand it better and at a more idiomatic level than any American could, but we are forbidden to use Israeli translators of Arabic. Might offend the Muslims, you know.

Depends on whose daughter...from the article, Id say he was apparently trading favors at the jail, such as unsupervised cell phone use, for said fraternizing with a detainees daughter. And remember, this is a prison where the high-value prisoners go. Just another in the infinitely lengthy list of guys who's "Little Head Overwhelmed Their Big Head"!

If he got an article 15 as a Captain it is highly unlikely he was promoted to Major, let alone LTC. At least when I was in the Army, an article 15 was a career ending event for an officer.

A punitive letter has to come from an NJP, or Court-Martial. So if he got a letter in his record he probably did get an article 15.
I know quite a few senior enlisted that had an NJP in their youth, but for an officer, any NJP is the end of the line career wise.

I was told it was an article 15 as a Col in Iraq, I may have it wrong, but he was allowed to walk away while his troops were charged with murder after following his orders.

I am talking about Iraq.
Most recently SSgt Girouard from (KY? TN?) was sentenced for covering up for his men who killed people following those very orders from Steele, while the murder charges were dropped, they hung Girouard for covering up that his men killed Iraqi civilians. Girouard didn’t even kill the men in that incident, and the men who killed them went away.

I saw on the news that he’d given an unmonitored cell phone or phones either to the detainee or the detainee’s daughter.
