Story of a Gun (the horrible eeeeeevil 9mm!!!)
Newsweak via MSNBC ^ | 23 April 2007 | Jerry Adler

April 30, 2007 issue - The three students from Wilberforce University, near Xenia, Ohio, had a tremendous fondness for 9-millimeter pistols. They bought them as many as 25 at a time from the accommodating owner of the Hole in the Wall Gun Shop, James Dillard. As required by Ohio law, the buyers duly attested that the guns were for their personal use, which was good enough for Dillard. In fact, according to federal prosecutors, the pistols were passed to a gunrunner who resold them to street gangs. Seventy-six 9mm semiautomatics were sold to just one gang, the Double II Bloods of East Orange, N.J. Jamel Coward, who already had a .45, bought a Leinad 9mm and went out with a friend to try it out. On people. They drove down a street in what they believed to be the territory of the rival Crips, and Coward commenced firing. He wounded three bystanders before a bullet struck 19-year-old Erron Lewin in the neck. Lewin, who belonged to no gang, died on the spot.

This article is truly awful, even given the tradition of clueless MSM firearms journalism.

The author uses "9mm" as a general term for "high capacity polymer framed semiauto", and manages to confuse and mislead readers with multiple factual errors.

He cites the 1986 Miami FBI shootout as the catalyst for the rise of the 9mm, when in fact the EXACT OPPOSITE is true; that incident spurred a search that led to the .40 S&W cartridge and greatly reduced 9x19 market share.

Whomever he interviewed, had their HUA. Of course, the quotes from Hip Hop artists add a lot to the discussion.

If it’s got a “bulge”, it’s not feminine.

Maybe the author’s spent too much time in San Fagcisco?

So, “three students from Wilberforce University” broke the law, the “gunrunner” broke the law, and N.J. Jamel Coward broke the law.

What does that have to do with guns? Does this moron think if these folks were willin’ to break the existing laws, they’d be stop at a new one?

Maybe, the Feds and the Locals should try rousting the gangs?
Nah. Unlike gunstore owners and law-abiding gun-owners, gangbangers might shoot back.

I’d say the 9mm is still dominant.
Many departments have upgraded to the .40SW, but most don’t have the budgets to upgrade on caliber alone.

Here's another to add to your list:

But the ones who should know best—the militaries of at least 70 countries, including, since 1985, the United States—have come down in favor of the 9mm sidearm.

This was done to adapt to the NATO standard, it had nothing to do with "lethality".

Once upon a time, I bought three guns at once (all different types--rifle, revolver, and pistol). This was back in the days when the "kitchen-table" FFL's were still around. The guy I bought'em from said that it was a requirement that he NOTIFY THE BATF any time three or more weapons were purchased.

So the government already knows about "multiple-gun-at-once" purchases.

I was listening to a radio talk show host saying that “most semi-autos are plastic and can’t be detected by metal detectors.”

What an idiot!

Plastic guns.

Used in reference to the light yet durable Glock handguns, a favorite firearm of law enforcement officers. Politicians commonly claim that a “plastic gun” is easily passed through metal detectors. This is false. Glocks are mostly metal in the same way a Corvette is metal. The average Glock contains over a pound of metal. They are made of both plastic and metal. Furthermore, common sense dictates that there is virtually no way a bullet could pass through a plastic chamber. The plastic would instantly melt.

(Some excerpts taken from Leroy Pyle, a retired policed officer and current director of the Second Amendment Police Department)

Unicorns, Jedi, and Plastic Guns
by Carter Laren (October 12, 2004)

During the recent vice presidential debate, Senator Edwards criticized Vice President Cheney for voting “against banning plastic weapons that can pass through metal detectors.” The ban to which Edwards was referring was the Undetectable Firearms Act of 1988. Cheney was one of only four representatives to vote against it.

Although this might bother some readers, there is a very simple reason that it should not: there is no such thing as a plastic gun. This fact is not news and should not require mentioning, but it seems that certain people keep forgetting it. For those readers who were not paying attention just then, perhaps it is worth repeating: there is no such thing as a plastic gun.

Yes, the idea is to put out of business the local gun dealer in favor of the gun runner from Mexico, where we are suppose to turn our back and let them come into the country.

I wonder what these morons blame for the Scotland school massacre - in a country with one of the most restrictive gun control laws in the world?

He could have used shurikens and a katana.
The problem was no one at the school had the knowledge, equipment, and skills to defend themselves. The only one who really got it was a 76 yr old holocaust survivor.
( We won’t get into the moral side).

“there was always a sergeant who practiced with it who could hit man sized targets at 50 years and he’d do the demos.”

While the muzzle velocity of the .45 is considerably lower than that of a 9mm, I believe it still reaches it’s taget in less than 50 years. :)

My female cousin LEO still carries a 9mm but most of her male counterparts now carry .40 S&W. I think a lot of the more rural LEOs still use 9mm, though.

I’m a licensed dealser and I would refuse the sale of 25 identical or similar pistols to an unlicensed person, as that sale would appear to be for resale.
