Va. Tech Gunman Named
By Michael Shear and Debbi Wilgoren Washington Post Staff Writers Tuesday, April 17, 2007; 9:36 AM
Virginia Tech officials today identified the Virginia Tech student who killed 32 people and then himself on the Blacksburg campus yesterday as 23-year-old Cho Seung-Hui of Centreville.
Cho was a South Korean native who had immigrated to this country, the university announced on its Web site this morning. He was a senior majoring in English, and lived in a dorm on campus, officials said.

Some Asian countries start children out in basic military training at grade school levels. China, I believe, is one of them. North Korea is another.
Check out some 1911 or Sig threads to see what others think about plastic throwaways :-)
The report is that the guy has been here since age 8. I think the military angle is mistaken.
The receipt in the backpack gives rise to another question -- can you purchase a gun with the serial numbers already removed and if so, why would you want a receipt?
Big difference between range shooting and the real thing, but I understand your point.
One thing is for certain, those people were still able to move and dodge his aim. Even at close range, have you ever tried to hit a moving target with a pistol?
In fact, just how much pistol experience do you actually have? It’s one thing that’s easy so suppose, but through actual experience, a much different outcome once the degree of difficulty is clearly understood.
he wouldn’t need much “skill” to shoot people at nearly point-blank range, which is what the witnesses have been repeatedly describing
I don’t find a thing about having the receipt in the backpack odd at all.
One of the guys I play in a band with is a backpack junkie. I suspect every receipt for any purchase over 20 bucks is in there, and I would guess they go back a lot further than 60 days.
Out of interest, I just pulled some receipts out of my wallet. Liquor store 11/25/06, Chinese restaurant 12/1/06, different Chinese restaurant 2/21/07. No reason to keep at all, but there they are. Oh, and I can pick up the dry cleaning today.
Maybe the girlfriend he was looking for was a science/engineering major and the first woman who was killed in the dorm was her roomate?
We probably wont know anything close to the real truth for at least a couple more days, if not weeks.
***
And maybe never.
He got it right. The kid's last name is (was) Cho. Last names come first in Korea, China, etc.
I disagree, LEO’s routinely miss over half of all shots fired in ‘close quarters’.
but we are speculating. We’ll learn all about this guy’s background, and habits, over the next few days and weeks.
The first time my wife held a pistol she was able to swap magazines in a couple of seconds after practicing for a few minutes. It's even easier if you just let the empty one hit the deck instead of trying to catch it.
“True and some folks just like to complain.”
Yep! LOL!
There are many unanswered facts that need to be clarified.
Most of us are just therorizing at this point. It is what makes for a good discussion and inspires the finding of facts.
That is one of the most ridiculous postings I’ve ever read. Some of the “at least 14 dead” headlines are for tornados and other natural disasters. How are these possibly “black ops/false flag”. Come on!
As to the practice going back many years there is this thing called the AP Style Guide that reporters submitting stories for the wire are encouraged to use. It probably suggests this when final body count for a disaster is not known.
The author of the post offers absolutely ZERO proof for his ridiculous assertion. He does not explain how even ONE of stories he lists was, in fact, a black op.
Element of surprise, close range and lots of ammo. With a good weapon and enough rounds it's like a marginal photographer with a digital camera, if you take enough pics some of them have to be good.
I'm also betting he had been practicing and was very good with the weapon of choice. The one kid that got shot in the arm was on FOX this AM. This was the kid that even while shot held the door shut along with others. The kid said that the shooter dropped a clip and slapped another one in in a second or two. Very fast. That's something I bet the shooter had been practicing "ala" Taxi Driver.
Cowardly ba$tard! I wish he would have tried this at a public place in Texas instead of a place where nobody was armed.
That’s Mrs. randog’s theory.
Thanks....this guy sure sounds like he is prepared to be tarred and feathered, doesn’t he??
