He also said the dorm room was a mess and it took time to determine the gun was not there. And then, the shooting started in the second building.
>Seems to me that would have been ruled out if no weapon was found at the scene of the deaths in the dorm.<
Unless the dorm shooter had an accomplice who picked up the gun - and subsequently used it.
I thought he sounded like he was in shock, which would explain why he might come off as unfeeling.
The guy followed the rules. He didn’t know the kid was going to be wacko.
Public safety chief, all actions taken were reasonable.
CYA....
I don’t know about that. If everything was in order, there are no grounds to sue. If I go out and start killing people with a carving knife, does that mean my victims can sue Williams-Sonoma for legally selling me a carving knife?
Why should he face lawsuits? He followed the rules, right?
Well, we now know that HE WASN’T here on a student visa. THAT is why we wait for the information and do not rely on second and third hand RUMORS.
Apparently VT is holding its information close to the vest, which, in turn, infuriates the press, who then proceed with wild speculation and their own opinions as to what happened and what should have done.
Now, instead of mourning these 32 children, we're suppose to find the blame immediately and trash somebody -- anybody.
The press is like the plant in Little Shop of Horrors. It loves blood and it MUST be fed.
Watching the reporters pontificate last night, I had a fleeting thought that I prayed that they be completely wrong in everything they said so that, once and for all, this country can see what these awful people do to us day in and day out.
I’m wondering the same.
Oh, good grief! Maybe because when they tried the doors, they couldn’t open them? CHAINED doors would be evident, even from the outside.
You must be kidding me.
I started to ramble on about that, because your point certainly crossed my mind and I thought it might get mentioned. Intellectually and chronologically these students are adults, as are our fighting forces. "Children" is spoken from the heart and not the brain; as we might often say in tragic situation contexts, 'children' losing their parents, parents losing their 'children' in combat. It's not an indictment of the students' maturity. Just more embracing.
Because the anti-gun people keep wanting to blame the gun, not the gun user, for doing a bad thing.
After a tornado killed 8 students at a nearby high school, President Bush visited the site. He landed at the airport near my home and hundreds of people were lined up outside of the airport. I was in my front yard and got chill bumps as Air Force One flew over my house. Many of my neighbors were outside as well. He then flew on a helicopter to Enterprise and visited with and consoled families, students, and the community. Many, many people in our area described how they were comforted by his words and attention to our community. His feelings and prayers were genuine. I refuse to make a comparison between President Bush and Bill Clinton.
Exactly. A gun always remains nearby in a murder/suicide simply because it has to. The absence of a gun should have told university officials, LEO’s, etc. ‘Hey, the perp is still on the loose.’
You could be right, although I’ll reserve judgment. I would certainly be in shock.
Share with the class?
I personally think the students are correct in saying... that the only person to blame is the shooter.
Whatever is that supposed to signify? Did you want him to weep or at least bite at his lip?
And how can you judge a university president's competence based on one statement in the midst of a nightmare?
Just asking....
