Harmless? He seems like a nut with an unhealthy obession for firearms. At the very least he should be investigated.

He didn't harm anybody. Didn't break any law, and looks like a harmless nerd. Probably knows and practices firearm safety like you and I practice breathing.

You're probably safer having him as a neighbor than your would be a neighbor who drinks and drives (like Ted Kennedy).

But, perhaps you are right. Maybe he should be "investigated" anyway.

"There is no way to stop a determined killer from creating havoc in a public place, unless we live under martial law."

A good point - you can't stop every maniac in the World. However, if every school, mall, stadium, company, institution, et al, were to publicize personnel as being armed, it would definitely put a damper on the psychos' plans.

For whatever their reason, be it religious, political, terroritorial, or just plain pissed off or insane, if they know they can't kill at such ease, they just may turn the gun on themselves. Arm All!!! Put a side-arm on every responsible hip and let the chips fall where they may.

Can anyone tell me what happened, what we know so far? One shooter or two, who he is, why, etc.
I’m at work and can’t read the whole thing here. Thanks.

“There is no way to stop a determined killer from creating havoc in a public place.” Sure there is..... One... JUST ONE(!!!) legally armed student could have ENDED this situation, and saved DOZENS of lives. Instead, this was a Liberal-Mandated “Gun-Free Slaughter Zone”, and a student with the stones to actually CARRY a legal weapon on Campus was being threatened with EXPULSION... The lesson her, YET AGAIN, is that:

Not sure I agree with immature students being armed, but school authorities being trained and armed - yes.

The North Hollywood shootout changed a lot of doctrine....as noticed by all the officers carrying AR15s today.

Boyfriend / girlfriend dispute in the early morning, girlfriend and an intervening party killed. Mass shooting in a campus classroom buillding two and half hours later. Unknown whether the shooter was the same guy. Shooter in second incident described as tall asian youth. No description on first incident. Geraldo went on the air with the website of a VT student who he implied was the shooter... it wasn’t... he’s now looking for a lawyer.

That’s about it. This stuff unravels slowly. Look for some specific stuff around morning news time.

Does everyone have ‘em now? The original decision was to just give ‘em to the Sergeants, ‘cause they didn’t trust the grunts. But then again, that was back in Chief Willie days.

Thanks for the info.

You have to wonder what's the hold-up in producing an accurate time-line of events, especially inside the classrooms.

125 conflicting eyewitness accounts, most likely.

"A Navy Vet, you just read my mind. I work at a school and many staff members have been complaining for years that we and the children are sitting ducks for nuts and/or terrorists. We don’t even have a police officer on campus. After the Beslan massacre, it really scared us. But nothing has been done for any tighter security....."

I, also, have been terrorified a Beslan will happen here to my loved ones.

Your choices are:
Scream out (not discuss) your concerns to the school board;
Build a coalition to hire bona fide "experienced" security guards (not rent-a-cops);
Patrol your schools with weapons in hand, according to your state and local ordinances. If local ordinances forbid it, carry anyways. It's your decision.

Personally, I'm done with arguing the 2nd Amendment! I have a god-given right to protect my family! Carry or don't - tough decision, but I'd rather be brought up on charges of carrying unlawfully and face the judgment than to not have the deterent when neccessary.

Yeah, that’s the biggest contradiction of all. Jilted lover means crime of passion. It’s very very rare that someone on that kind of emotional state can kill with that kind of cold efficency.

All the facts have not come to light yet.

From what I heard, the authorities aren't sure it was a domestic dispute between boyfriend and girlfriend.

Apparently someone said that's what the argument looked like, so it's possible it was simply a diversionary hit.

And for the first time tonight I heard there were eight other people injured in the first attack. Anyone else heard this?

I mean an even more basic timeline. When did the police manage to get into the building? Did any police see the shooter or exchange shots with him?

That classroom building is huge. Was more than one door chained? All of them? That takes time.

Basic weapons use training for small arms in the military (save the Marines) takes all of about a day per weapon. Maybe two. Extensive? Hardly.

And then they have to practice with it less than a CHL holder does to maintain proficiency. There are guys in the Army that haven’t even held a rifle or pistol for *years*. CHL holders (depending on the state) have to requalify on a regular basis, sometimes annually.

"If everyone has the right to carry, then the killers just don’t know who might be armed."

Of course. That is the simplicity of the arguement against the gun-grabbers, which they can't understand in their mindless "feelings" to build an unattainable Utopia.

More simply stated:
Got gun? I have one too! You want to kill a bunch of people, I will kill you first! Your plan is dead and so are you!

18 year olds can’t even purchase a handgun, let alone get a CHL, until they are 21. When they are 21, what possible objection do you have?

"The problem with just arming certain people (ie teachers, professors) and letting it be known is that the killers/terrorists will kill those people first. If everyone has the right to carry, then the killers just don’t know who might be armed."

You make a point, but think how many faculty there are in a school. I do not advocate the children being armed. Very, very bad idea. Think of all the trash who infest our schools currently.

That said, we can't expect our teachers to be cops, but if the bad guys know teacher may have a 9mm in their desk drawer (with appropriate security measures), they may think twice about their maniacal tendencies as just go out to the shed and put the bullet in their own mouth. It's worth a try.
