The theme of "Bittersweet Memories" given to a prom for Higgins High School seniors turned out oddly appropriate, thanks to a flap about whether dresses were too revealing.
Many West Bank families were fuming Saturday after a teacher refused to allow dozens of girls into the prom Friday night because of alleged violations of the Jefferson Parish Schools dress code, most of them related to excessive display of cleavage.
"I was embarrassed," said Miranda Melerine (right), 17, a senior at the Marrero high school, who was among those barred by teacher Judy Gardner, an advisor to senior activities. "We can't go back to prom night. Prom's over. Our prom has been stolen from us."
Melerine said she is larger-busted than many of the girls who passed inspection at the door of the Magnolia Plantation dance hall at Elmwood Park, that it is harder for her to get the right fit in a prom dress, and that Gardner gave her blessing to a picture of the dress long before the dance.
Earlis Fayette, 18, said his girlfriend also was sent away by Gardner at the door.
"She said, 'No, her chest is too big and it (the dress) reveals too much,'" said Fayette, adding he was offended by the terse exchange.

flap? hardly :)
(not a photo from this prom)
More wretched excess here
She can have to N.O.P.D. Suite at Caesar's.
gee thanks for that
It's great if school officials want to enforce some decency standards, turning a kid away from her prom because of a dress that was previously approved by a school official (in this case, the same one who turned her away) is idiotic. Ms. Gardner should, and probably will, be sued at the very least for the cost of the dresses and prom tickets.
"We can't go back to prom night. Prom's over. Our prom has been stolen from us."
If I was a judge, I'd probably make Ms. Gardner pay for a whole second prom.

I’m a helper.
It’s just what I do.
I wonder what Imus would say about these gals?
When I was in high school, the principal used to measure the boy’s sideburns and the girl’s skirts with a ruler. A couple of years later, he was fired for (among other things) bringing his own steaks to school and having the cooks prepare them for him so he didn’t have to eat the school food. He was a real jerk. The “teacher” in this story sounds like a relative of his.
YIKES!!

THEN follow the rules and don’t be a slut.
If the counselor approved the dress, the girl should have been let in. What most likely occurred, is that the counselor was shown a photo depicting a slimmer model in the dress, so it looked fine to her at the time. That said, maybe this could lead to a request to prom dress companies to design dresses are not so scanty.
When I was in school, we had to kneel, if our hem didn't touch the floor we had to go home and change clothes.
Which rules? The ones that changed out from under her? She sent a picture of the dress, and it was approved.
It is about time! If one is not selling, one need not advertise.
Boom shaka laka boom shaka laka boom
