Duke Rape Accuser has an extensive criminal record and reportedly claimed to have been raped before under eerily similar circumstances

Crystal Gail Mangum was an "exotic dancer / stripper" who worked for Allure Escort Service & Teaser's Palace Strip Club and was hired to ostensibly "dance" at a Frat party. 

Discussions turned to "outcalls," [where women visit private homes, sometimes alone — and where the definition of service gets murky but is just window dressing for what everyone knows what was going on: prostitution.]. These "negotiations" turned sour and confrontational.  

Make no mistake: the Duke University students at the party brought this tempest  upon themselves.  The fact that hiring strippers is commonplace on any campus does not relieve them of their responsibility to adhere the university's code of conduct. They have no one else to blame but themselves.

That being said, three sacrificial lambs: Reade Seligmann, Collin Finnerty and David Evans had been falsely accused and subsequently vindicated and actually pronounced "innocent" by no one else less that the Attorney General.  The charges have been dropped

So just who was the accuser? Crystal Gale Mangum is a borderline psychotic with a lengthy rap sheet. In 2002, she stole a taxi from a man to whom she was giving a lap dance. A high speed chase then ensued, and when the deputy chasing her approached the stolen taxi on foot, she tried to run over him. She pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of larceny, speeding to elude arrest, assault on a government official and driving while impaired. She was sentenced to 3 weekends in detention.

In 2006 she concocted the story for reasons only knows and has cried rape before. A decade before accusing three Duke University lacrosse players of rape, a North Carolina woman claimed to have been sexually assaulted by a trio of men when she was a teenager. In 1996, she told police that three attackers had assaulted her several years earlier, when she was 14. The woman's first rape claim was recorded in August 1996 by police in Creedmoor, N.C., though none of the men she identified as her assailants were ever charged.

Ms. Mangum was arrested in June 2002 after she got drunk, stole a car at a strip club, and lead police on a reckless high-speed chase. This incident resulted in the following charges

• Felonious Larceny and Felonious Possession of Stolen Vehicle charges, 02-CRS-49955
• Felonious Speeding to Elude Arrest, Driving while Impaired (.19 Blood Alcohol Content) and Driving while License Revoked, 02-CRS-49956

• Failure to Heed Blue Light and Siren and Reckless Driving in Wanton Disregard to Rights or Safety of Others, 02-CR-49959
• Driving the Wrong Way on Dual Lane Highway and Open Container After Consuming Alcohol, 02-CR-49960
• two counts of Injury to Personal Property, 02-CR-49962-63
• Resisting a Public Officer, 02-CR-49964

I believe the story was that the taxi driver was in the strip club where Mangum worked receiving a lap dance from her when she excused herself and (apparently dressed again) marched off to the parking lot and drove off with the taxi.

The driver and a security guard tried to stop her and, when they couldn’t, they called police which led to the high speed chase.

Later, when the cops had stopped the taxi at a place with no exit and began to leave the squad car to arrest her, she spun the car around and drove off, nearly running over one of the officers.
