Mitt Romney is riding high this week after his victory in "the first primary," which consists of raising cold, hard cash to compete: more than $20 million in the first quarter, $5 million more than his closest contender, Rudy "Lay off my wife!" Giuliani. John McCain came in a lackluster third with $12.5 million.
Romney's campaign benefited from two distinct donor networks, according to media accounts: Wall Street and Mormons. GOP front-runner Rudy, struggling with one of those weird media freak shows erupting around his wife, Judith (her alleged participation in future Cabinet meetings and former puppy killings), must be a little envious on both counts.
Why is it that all the Dem candidates are still married to their first spouse, while among the current crop of leading GOP contenders, the only guy with just one wife is the Mormon?
Truth is, I don't think this is just an accident. There's something about Mormons the rest of us ought to pay attention to: Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints do much better than almost any other faith group at sustaining a marriage culture -- and they do this while participating fully and successfully in modern life. Utah is above the national average in both household income and the proportion of adults who are college graduates.

I don’t think he is a great man or a great family guy.
What has he done that is great? His family and church ties have gotten him his money and influence, and as for a “great” family man, we just don’t have enough information to know that.
I know you were just suggesting that he might be those things, but we really don’t know.
What do we know now, though? He has fully funded Planned Parenthood, gay-agenda groups, and he is pro-embryonic stem cell abortion, etc.
Ping! Something to remember when we are arguing for Mitt and conservative values.
I’m curious, what in peoples minds makes Mormonism more of a cult that any other variety of Christianity?
There were two strong forces of that moment in America: Spiritualism and Free Masonry. Smith Jr stole them both and mixed them.
After the death of Smith and “Brigand” Young (see Mountain Meadows Massacre and Fancher Party) I have little to complain about Mormons.
Is their religion crap? yes. Is it different from other religions? Nope.
It would seem that the moral descendants of those who burned down Mormon towns and cities, tarred and feathered their men, forced Mormons from their lands and homes at gunpoint, murdered many men, women and children and ultimately issued an extermination order in Missouri to prevent Mormons from ever living there again are longing for the good old days.
...or any other religion for that matter.
My god is a shoehorn - prove me wrong.
Faith is faith.
Disgraceful. Which causes me to suggest people vote for Mitt to stop them BOTH! : )
Another fun thread for you.
I shall take your statement as exactly what it is: worthless.
Angry Write Mail, you are incorrect about Mormon theology:
1. Mormons believe that EVERYONE will be resurrected. I’m not sure how other Christian faiths view this but in Mormon theology physical and spiritual death are considered separate items. All will be saved from physical death by being resurrected but not all will be saved from spiritual death (being separated from God).

2. It is true that Mormons believe that in order to be worthy of the highest degree of reward in heaven one must be married but it applies in both directions. Meaning that a husband is just as dependent on his wife to go there as a wife is on her husband. Further while divorce is strongly discouraged it is an option in extreme cases so a women is not forced to choose between remaining with an abusive husband and losing out on potential rewards in the hereafter.
That's well enough right there, disqualifying him even if he were an "evangelical Christian" in my book--forget his cult religion.
Honestly, I know we need to be optimistic, but with the Republican candidates now, I see no one who could beat Hillary. I remain convinced, and have for a long time, Hillary will be our next president--and America's great punishment.

I think I have a more relevant point: WHO THE HELL CARES? I’m voting for someone on their politics, not their religion. I don’t care if he worships sun gods. It’s really not important.
I’m a 46 year old guy.
Until I was 18 I was a Jehovah’s Witness. While I left them when I was 18 for doctrinal reasons I was always stunned by the amount of “documentation” one could find of beliefs the Witness’s simply did not have.
One wife is the norm on this planet, not something to get a major award for.
