Today you accuse other Freepers of longing to be murderers.
Hypocrite?
Except that all of your comments were lies and you haven’t supported anything at all except that you are amazingly ignorant.
Well I guess St. Paul, most all of the great saints of the Middle Ages, and even Jesus Christ Himself just won't make the cut to "the highest degree of the reward in heaven." Pitiful.
Say what you will, but this just isn't Christianity.
What makes them a cult is the idea of a cult-mind.
When you are a member of the Mormon church, you are expected to not question the validity of doctrine or the validity of your Prophet who speaks on behalf of God Almighty, or you will be labeled an Apostate. If your labeled as such, you will find yourself not being able to do business with other Church members who know of your “apostacy” and you and your family will be ostracized.
As a member of the Mormon church, you are expected to participate in ceremonies in order to further your “rank” in the church. You must wear certain garments and you must participate in specific temple rituals in special temple clothing. I believe a huge part of the definition of a cult is that you must keep things secret. The Mormon church keeps temple activities secret and during the Temple ceremonies you are to run your hand in a cutting gesture across your throat and abdomen, symbolizing that revealing the temple secrets mean death. I don’t know, all this doesn’t sound just like any other church to me. What other church do you have to make such a gesture and swear to secrecy?
I guess a great example is the Mountain Meadows Massacre. A group of Mormon men surround and killed over a period of days a wagon train of 150 men women and children that was passing through Utah. They told the remaining men women and children that they would let them surrender after several days. Then, when the wagon train folks laid down their weapons and were escorted from their train, the Mormon men were told by the Mormon leader (Lee) to shoot them all in the head except for children under 8 years of age.
A cult mind means that a person is so unquestioning to a religious organization that they will do anything that their leaders ask of them (in this example, the men killed defenseless women and children and men). Other examples would be like the Jim Jones poison coolaid drinkers, the David Koresh fanatics, etc. History is full of examples.
Once your involved with the cult, it is not easy to get out of it, and ramifications of membership oftentimes effect family relationships.
The GOP also used to support high tarrifs and anti-Catholic legislation like the Blaine Amendments.
There are many forms of what might be called “traditional Christian religions”. Most of them contradict the others in one way or another. So, who is to say which are the cults and which are not?
My personal opinion is you would be better off to ignore baitings to draw you into defending your cult. Let the man and his life speak for him, without getting into contentious wrangles over aspects of Mormonism. Morally, Mitt Romney appears way ahead of his competition, except maybe Duncan Hunter.
what will frighten evangelicals - and rightly so, is that a bright man such as Romney could associate himself with a theology that is so (even at the most cursory glance) full of holes, errant prophechy and un Christian practices which are vieled as "normal".
Anyone who cares about the issue of judicial activism, abortion on demand, euthanasia and homosexual favoritism should care. But hey, religion is just irrelevant to politics, right?
You are a bigot. Do they teach you that at your church? If so, how can your Church of “we are the only way” be any better than the LDS church?
You’re right. I apologize. Reading such willfully ignorant, hateful rants tends to set me off. I try not to let it, but at times, it’s difficult not to.
I know atheists who are more conservative than you. So...no, it’s not relevant.
>> “Morally, Mitt Romney appears way ahead of his competition”
Appearances can be deceiving. None of us know whether Mitt is a moral person. Just because he’s packaged as such doesn’t make it so.
That’s not the post I was referring to. I am as suspicious of you claiming to know Mormons who say that Mormonism is a cult as I am when Democrats tell me they know Republicans who believe [insert pet liberal project of your choice...impeaching President Bush, the illegality of the Iraq war, whatever]. It’s just ridiculous.
If a man thinks like that, stays married to a wife throughout this life, then is doing to ditch her in the next world, that man isn't worthy to be in the Celestial Kingdom.
Angry,
when you pose researched facts to a Mormon, the first thing they will do is label you anti-mormon. They will never admit something that their leaders did was wrong, or admit that any doctrinal teaching is wrong. They are trained to not question anything, or they may be called Apostate.
That’s the cult mind; the elimination of critical thinking.
