Rasmussen Reports ^ | 04/03/07 | Rasmussen Reports

The addition of former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson (R) to the list of candidates shakes up the race for the GOP Presidential nomination.

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) remains on top, but his support dips below the 30% mark for the first time in seven weeks. With Thompson in the mix, Giuliani’s support tumbles to 26%, down nine points from a week ago. That’s the lowest level of support measured for Giuliani in any Rasmussen Reports poll this year.

Support for Arizona Senator John McCain remains steady at 16%, but McCain’s hold on second place is threatened by Thompson. The movie star turned Senator turned TV star weighs in with 14% support among those likely to vote in a GOP primary. Among Very Conservative voters, Giuliani attracts 20% support followed closely by Thompson at 19%, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich at 18% and McCain at 14%.

...In general election match-ups Thompson is tied with New York Senator Hillary Clinton (D) but trailing Illinois Senator Barack Obama (D)...

McCain needs to drop out so that we can narrow down the race to Giuliani, Romney, and Thompson.

Not too bad considering he’s not even a declared candidate.

Rudy peaked about a year too early. All down hill for him from here.

So much the better.

Toss in delayed reaction over Rudy’s crooked crone police commish, ex wives, abortion and gays, into the fray and wonder what the outcome will look like?

Guliani needs to drop out so we won’t lose the 2nd amendment, kill more babies, and have to dress in drag on homo day parades.

Just a temporary bump in the road for Guiliani. The Rupert Murdochs Pro-Hillary paper skewered Guiliani’s wife last week.

It is best to get the bad news out early in the campaign any way.

Oooooooo.....including candidates into a poll that aren’t even running.

THIS far out, what matters is MONEY....after the summer, issues start to move to the front with those that have the money.

What’s the campaign coffers match-up look like and there you have your current leader.

If one reads the entire article, it reveals that a plurality (41%) have no opinion (favorable or unfavorable) of Thompson at the present. In other words, he is an unknown to many potential voters. Also, the article reveals that 46% say they would definitely vote against Hillary Clinton. With that level of negative sentiment, the Democrats will be drinking the Kool Aid cocktail if they nominate Hillary, unless a conservative third-party candidate runs in the general election.

Undeclared candidate Fred Thompson coming up behind the favorite.
Maybe next week’s headline will be, “Spectator Overtakes Racehorse.” :D

McCain under no circumstance will drop out, unfortunately.

Money is overrated in todays world of information. Thompson has not dropped a dime, and has gone from zero to 14% in a few weeks.

McCain may not drop out, but I predict that he’ll be the 2008 version of Howard Dean — the guy who simply runs out of gas and never rises up to the level where he was predicted to be.

"Giuliani’s support tumbles to 26%, down nine points from a week ago."

Polls this far out are worthless to me, but I wonder how Mayor Giuliani's supporters will spin this, considering how much they've trumpeted his previous numbers.

Rudy McRomney needs to drop out so we can narrow the race down to Thompson, Hunter, Brownback, Gilmore, and Paul.

Then we could have a debate instead of watching Stupid RINO Tricks over and over.

Fred Thompson is playing the best game in town. He is close to 2nd place now without even declaring. Once he jumps in it will be non stop Fred coverage in the media and he is number one in a week.
