Good for him.
None of us can claim to have never made a mistake. His mistake was a doozy, but he is doing his best to correct it. That's all any of us can do.

Good letter, Jim.
But don't expect Karl Levin (D-USSR) to retract his lies using what he claims are your statements. That would be like asking a maggot to stop eating sh!t.

The man's trying his hardest to redeem his name with the 2nd Amendment crowd. It takes more than one attaboy to make up for the past awshi!s. However, it's at least a start.
IF he continues, and if there are no further attacks on our rights either from him in the future nor as a result of his past wrongdoing, then yeah, he can begin rolling the boulder up the mountain to attempt to eventually regain his past position. He does NOT get a free pass back to where he was, however, and he has to have his ticket punched at ALL the stations along the way.

Legislation to which Sen. Levin alluded, HR 1022, would renew the ban on so-called assault weapons, and dangerously expand it to encompass far more perfectly legal firearms.Does this guy really make a living with words? Anyway, I hope he is going to spend a few more hours at Ted's ranch.

The man's trying his hardest to redeem his name with the 2nd Amendment crowd. You got that right. I wonder is a lawsuit would be in order if his name and remarks were used without his permission? Could be a new avenue of keeping legislators from taking comments out of context.(?)

My continuing problems with Zumbo are related to his statements regarding being "educated" by Ted Nugent about the Ar-15. First, I find it odd that Mr. Zumbo, an outdoor writer for how many years on hunting[including varmints] had never handled, fired or "run into" an AR-15 before. More importantly, taking him at his word that he hadn't, I find it more disturbing that he went after semiautomatic, legitimate hunting weapons without having done so, especially since Zumbo has to have been aware of what's been happening in the fields of gun control/ registration/ bans in the last 20 years

I don't think it's necessarily true that he "had to" be aware of an AR-15.
The hunters really are a breed apart from the sport shooters, especially the big game and high-end bird hunters. They spend their days thinking about Purdy shotguns with hand engraving and gold inlay, not "black guns". Varminting for them is an opportunity to check the minute of angle on their custom rifle.
Only reason I know is I started out in one world and moved to the other. My dad and husband are both Army, but they were in in the days of the full size battle rifle (the M-16 was despised when my husband was in in the early 70s, and from what he tells me it suffered from the usual early model year problems that plague any newly manufactured item.) Both of them favor the heavy barrel bolt action rifles in .30 cal and larger, with wood stocking (but glass bedding), although my dad has a lever action Win model 71. The only "black gun" we have is an FN-FAL, although we have a little 10/22 with a stainless barrel and black composite stocking.
I didn't know anything about the small caliber lightweight semi-autos until I took on a gun rights case for a local sport shooters association.
It does not surprise me at all that Zumbo could be this ignorant.

Well, it's a very good letter. If he carries through on lobbying and educating gunowners on exactly why we must all support each others' Second Amendment rights, maybe he should be forgiven. In a few years.
It is absolutely vital that CCW folk and hunters and target shooters and plinkers and every other type of gunowner should oppose all restrictions and push for the repeal of existing gun restrictions.
To: AnAmericanMother
Nice post. I found your statements about the separate gun camps to be very interesting. Well-written, too.
To: OldPossum
Thank you.
Really, it is two worlds. And there are smaller subdivisions, such as between the bird hunters, the deer hunters, and the big game hunters on one side, and the plinkers, the varminters, the serious target shooters, the metallic silhouette shooters . . . it just goes on and on.
In a way it's like the dog world, the various groups don't always talk and sometimes really don't get along. The squabbles between the skeet-and-trap crowd and the high power rifle crowd in our old gun club were . . . interesting.

I was one of those loud voices that condemed him and I said that his "apology" was cheap talk in the face of the tremendous personal loss his comments generated. I was wrong. He means it. If he didn't he could have paid lip service in apologies and it wouldn't have amounted to a hill of beans. This guy deserves to be forgiven and I'm doing that as of right now, in public. He is making waves where they really need to be created.
