UFOs flew over Phoenix in '97, Symington says By Tom Beal ARIZONA DAILY STAR

"The universe is a big place, and we're conceited to think we're alone." Fife Symington, former Ariz. governor Former Gov. Fife Symington says now that those strange lights that appeared over Phoenix a decade ago were from another world and that he had a close encounter with an alien craft on March 13, 1997.

"I'm a pilot and I know just about every machine that flies. It was bigger than anything that I've ever seen. It remains a great mystery. Other people saw it, responsible people," Symington said Thursday. "I don't know why people would ridicule it."

Symington, who was in his second term as governor of Arizona during the Phoenix Lights incident, recently told a UFO investigator making a documentary that he had kept quiet about his personal close encounter because he didn't want to panic the populace. He repeated his story Thursday on CNN, saying the craft he saw was "enormous. It just felt other-worldly. In your gut, you could just tell it was other-worldly."

"even with landing lights the green and red wing lights would be lit."

Yes, but seen only close range.
The landing lights are amazingly bright, even from 50 miles away.
The farther away they are, the more one gets the impression that they are UFOs.

The formation that I saw was exactly the same formation shown in the clips. They came from the same direction. My buddy saw the same thing as one of a series of like sightings. At the time they were training foreign pilots on the Apaches. You could go out to the Superstitions at night and watch them pop up and down in the mountains. Another friend would sit out all night, smoke dope, and watch them.

It may have been the night of the lights or a little later but Art Bell had a program on them. They gave a phone number for a "UFO Research Center" which I called. I told the "researcher" what I had seen and he screamed at me that "they were not Apaches" and slammed the phone down.

You can believe what you will but I think it was Santa Claus.

There are 3 that I know of. The UFO that crashed just off shore in brazil in 1958 almost completely burned up, but 3 thumb sized pieces of metal were recovered. In a mass spectrometer they tested at 100% PURE Mg25. That was IMPOSSIBLE with earth-technology in 1958.

Cattle mutilations : zig-zag cuts but under a high powered microscope no cell is torn, the cut line goes BETWEEN the cells. IMPOSSIBLE even with today's technology.

Finally the strange foil found in the 1947 Roswell debris. You couldn't cut it with scissors, or burn a hole thru it with a cigarette. Wad it up like tinfoil and no creases result, it pops right back to flat again.

Lo and behold, a couple of years ago "memory metal" from the lab is announced : a rubber/metal alloy with PRECISELY those characteristics. In other words, with nanotechnology and quantum mechanics we are just now discovering what has been called "alien" technology.

Bottom line : Arthur Clarke's Third Law : A sufficiently advanced technology will seem like MAGIC to a less advanced technology. That was just as true 2000 years ago when Jesus demonstrated it to today's sceptics who are the blind leading the blind.

Yes, but the landing lights would not be on due S. of PHX.

I was in a plane that night, we came in E to W.

Landing pattern would have been over Scottsdale from the east, over Mesa from the due east, over S. Phoenix and turning over Mesa from the West, over N. Phoenix, turning over Scottsdale then Mesa, from the North, and from the South, turning over Mesa, due west to land.

It was flares. Had nothing been reported, all the other reports would have never seen the light of day.

OK, you listed 3.

Where is any proof, hard evidence, eyewitness reports.

Show me where the metal samples are and who analyzed them. Its been 49 years, where is the data, who did the analysis, was it peer reviewed?

Cattle, again, proof, impossible? Show me some peer reviewed data. And if it was ET's why come down and mutilate cattle, when they would have the capability of just stealing thousands of cattle?

Strange foil, intresting, really. What proof do we have? Where is the foil? Show me a sample.

I can claim anything.

Show me the memory metal from "the lab" I want the reports, the data the documents. You throw out nanotechnology and quantum mechanics as just words, give me some hard proof.

Bottom line: Arthur Clark is a great science fiction writer, I've read his works. He is a writer, not a scientist, he is not someone to be quoting, any more than an actor.

Have you seen any of these examples? Not likely.

You are just parroting some of the thousands of anecdotal stories that convince people that space aliens are all around us.

AFFIDAVIT OF JESSE A. MARCEL JR.

(1) My name is Jesse A. Marcel, M.D.

(2) My address is: XXXXXXXXXX

(3) I am a physician, and I have served in the National Guard since 1978; I am a ertified crash investigator and helicopter pilot.

(4) In July 1947, I was eleven years old and lived in Roswell, New Mexico, where my father, Major Jesse Marcel, was stationed at the Roswell Army Air Field, serving as the base intelligence officer.

(5) One night, I was awakened by my father in the middle of the night. He was very excited about some debris he had picked up in the desert. The material filled up his 1942 Buick. He brought some of the material into the house, and we spread it out on the kitchen floor.

(6) There were three categories of debris: a thick, foil-like metallic gray substance; a brittle, brownish-black plastic-like material, like Bakelite; and there were fragments of what appeared to be I-beams.

(7) On the inner surface of the I-beam, there appeared to be a type of writing. The writing was a purple-violet hue, and it had an embossed appearance. The figures were composed of curved, geometric shapes. It had no resemblance to Russian, Japanese or any other foreign language. It resembled hieroglyphics, but it had no animnal-like characters.

(8) My father said the debris was recovered from a crash site northwest of Roswell. He felt it was very unusual and may have mentioned the words "flying saucer" in connection with the material. He was certain it was not from a weather balloon.

(9) I have not been paid or given anything of value to make this statement, which is the truth to the best of my recollection.

Signed: Jesse A. Marcel

Signature witnessed by:
Trudy Anders LPN

So they like to sculp aliens. What's fascinating about that?

I gave the short version.
After their 'encounter' and prior to the nightmares the artist brother started to paint aliens, buglike creatures, instead of landscapes, etc.
He didn't know why.
The two other men in the canoe confirmed the story but one of the two clammed up and refused to talk about it anymore.
Anyway I thought the incident was more credible than others I have heard.

I was an AF pilot myself, and not to in any way take a shot at you personally, but just because in your limited experience you never saw or personally heard of such a thing doesn't mean it has never happened. That's just a bit of a stretch.

This whole 'crop circle' thing started with 2 brother in England. Mysterious circles showing up for years.
They finally admitted to the circles and showed how they did it.
Then the imitators took over.
I find some of the designs pretty, well thought out and executed. But I don't think they are extra-terrestrial in origin.

What is the purpose of the circles, assuming they are made by aliens?
Communicating with us? Why in the middle of nowhere, in a wheat field.
Why not a piece of paper dropped in DC?

... One way is to attend an aircraft identification class. ... With some practice one can actually tell the difference between a helicopter, a fixed wing aircraft, a weather balloon, and a bird....

LOL!. Who needs a class for that?

I used to be quite the believer in UFOs, etc.
But one incident was instrumental in forcing me to look more closely at the phenomena.
Years ago, 15-20 yrs., there was a bolide that crossed the sky at Lake Louise Canada.
There were seven amateur videos of it.Seven. As rare as bolides are and seven videos.
I have yet to see a credible video of a UFO. Thousands of reports of UFOs and no credible video.
The Mexico City, Gulf Breeze videos are obvious fakes.

Another point.
Why are these 'aliens' so similar to us, ie. 2 eyes, 2 legs, arms,a nose, a mouth.
What are the odds that an alien from another planet in the far reaches of the universe would have evolved even similar to us?
If aliens are in fact as portrayed, I would say it's a strong case for creationism. Which I am a proponent of BTW.

I guess I would say my status on the subject is 'agnostic'.
But I do find the subject fascinating and tend to 'eat this stuff up'.

This reminds me of an episode on "Benson", a TV serial comedy in which "Governor Gatlin" sees a UFO and they "borrow" Benson's watch. The Guv is ridiculed by the press, of course.

I think there are at least three people who believe in UFO's.
1. The book sellers aren't "true believers". They're just in a business like the carnival and they're hoodwinking the rubes.
2. The "true believers" leave someone pathetic lives. They can't wait for someone to step in and save them. They think somehow space aliens will make this world a better place. They also think since they know something the rest of the world denies, they're "special". They have a blue ribbon hanging in their bedroom since third grade which says so.
3. The true nuts. They simply belong in a assisted living community.

gimme, gimme, gimme; sounds like my snail mailbox : gimme, gimme, gimme. #1 was by a brazilian physicist who did the mass-spec test on the samples. You have to get off your dead **** and go LOOK for that report. #2 was a report in mufon in re to microscopic studies of tissue samples from mutilated cattle, go LOOK.

#3 : all you have to do is thumb through back issues of Popular Science magazine to find "memory metal", IF that isn't too much trouble.
