MONROE (TV8) - A Choudrant woman's eagle eye and sense of patriotism has led to what an Office Depot executive tells her will be a nationwide recall of stationery. The paper, printed in asia, has an image of the American flag flying backwards.
Sue King is patriotic to say the least. Her father, grandfather, and two uncles are all veterans of the armed forces. Sue honors her family by organizing a veterans reunion every summer. She usually prints the invitations on this patriotic paper. This year she simply can't.
"It will be coming out on plain paper. I refuse to print it out on this," said King.
The stationary, which Sue purchased at Office Depot, has the American flag printed backward. It's something the average Joe may not notice, but G.I. Joe will.
"Many Americans died for that flag and I'll tell you the truth, it means a lot to me," said World War II Army veteran Gerald Sanderson.
World War II Navy veteran Joe Crain says there is only one way to show Old Glory.
"The star field is supposed to be on the top left hand corner of the paper. That's on the opposite side," said Crain.
An administrator at Office Depot's headquarters apologized and assured Ms. King the stationary would be taken off the shelf immediately, but at the Office Depot on Louisville the paper was still for sale Friday afternoon.
"I don't understand it. They didn't care or didn't know," said Sanderson.
The American flag stationary was printed in China.
"China could care less how our flag flies. I was upset about that too," said King. "They fought for something they believed in and our flag is our symbol of freedom," she added.
King says she's counting on Office Depot to do what it promised: to take the stationary off store shelves nationwide.
Or... just flip it over to the correct side. (reorient the sheet)
Problem solved.
Where's my consultant's fee?
Take that, liberals!
You're not the only ones who can make a point with somebody else's money.
I once saw a guy throw away half a box of nails because the heads were on the wrong end.
Didn't he have a left-handed hammer?
That does sound like a lib idea. One person is offended so the paper must be removed from shelves nationwide. Nobody can be allowed to purchase it.
That drove me crazy at first. I understand the reasoning but it still isn't right.
"The patch on the right shoulder is 'backwards' as well."
Why? I always noticed that but never really asked why.
My husband's truck has a flag on each side. One looks like it is facing the correct direction but it is backwards. The union is supposed to be facing toward the front of the truck. The same goes for sleeves.
It's to imply that the flag is always moving forward.
STUPID!
And OH! what did he do with the half he did not throw away?
Maybe the box was half and half?
That is a classic Stooges routine.
Moe: "What are you doing throwing away half of those nails?"
Curley: "The heads are on the wrong end of them!"
Moe: "You numbskull! Use them on the opposite wall!"
Nyuk nyuk nyuk.
Obviously, one should be able to turn the stationary around. Duh. The implication that patriotic Americans are dummies who can't rotate a piece of paper is quite offensive.
I smell a setup in the original article. Somebody's trolling.
I'm a truck driver and two years ago, just before 4th of July, one cash box (toll booth to you 4 wheelers) had taped little flags to the ends of the pike poles.
I emphatically and loudly informed all in earshot that our flag NEVER dips ... it took a few days, but the flags came off.
I think the story is that if you were holding a flag, marching into battle, that is how it would look from that side.
He should have saved them for the other side of the house.

GtG
