Rudeness mars peace message [antiwar protestor DEFECATES on burning US flag]
Portland Tribune ^ | 3/23/07 | Portland Tribune Editorial

If the cause of peace is worth supporting — and we believe it is — then peace protesters must demonstrate the values they promote. The vast majority of the estimated 15,000 protesters who took part in a peace march Sunday in downtown Portland did just that. They were well-behaved, well-intentioned and serious about their cause.

But then there was a smaller group of demonstrators — if they can even be called that — who engaged in numerous actions that violated the sensibilities of ordinary people and damaged the very cause the activists claimed to endorse.

This splinter group of protesters showed its support for “peace” by burning a U.S. soldier in effigy. It exhibited its supposedly pacifist nature by knocking a police officer off his bike — an action that brought out the police riot squad.

Perhaps the most disturbing scene of the afternoon, however, involved the man who pulled down his pants in front of women and children and defecated on a burning U.S. flag. This disgusting act actually elicited cheers from some members of the crowd, but we hope that the emotion it produces in the community is one of revulsion....

Check out the comments after the article:

It is pretty obvious that a very organized small group was intent on disrupting Sunday’s anti-war march with behavior that was meant to be disgusting as possible. There only aim was to “destroy the message of peace” that thousands of other marchers brought with them to downtown Portland.

It makes you wonder who paid them to do this.

Bush's fault!

Demand that the Senior Incident Commander be relived, fired , retired...

Response from Portland Mayor Potter to my email condemning the flag and effigy burnings:

Office of Mayor Tom Potter
City of Portland

Thank you for emailing me about the recent activities of demonstrators against the Iraq war.

I appreciate your concern. The vast majority of those protesting the war in Iraq have been both peaceful and respectful of our young men and women in service. The actions of the very few you describe are protected as free speech under Oregon's Constitution, in much the same way that burning the flag has been protected by the U.S. Supreme Court. Portland police have monitored the protests closely, and made arrests when appropriate. However, it is also important to recognize that the intent of the protesters is to provoke a strong response and generate attention. I believe our police officers made the right decision by choosing not to engage the protesters directly.

Though I do not support our military's presence in Iraq, I do support our troops and wish them all a safe return home. Thank you, again, for emailing.

Sincerely,

Tom Potter
Mayor

The mayor of Portland is one of them.

That act showed the "peace" movement for what it truly is: Anti-American, anti-freedom, anti-Jew, and anti-Christian.

Amazing how these acts rarely get mentioned in the LameStream Media; but hell, let one conservative have a slip of the tongue--wall to wall coverage ensues until the person is driven from office.

Rudeness mars peace message

"Rudeness?" This mere rates as "rudeness"? Could our so called "News" media be any more obsequious to these people?

What an idiot.
