Leaving some human population centers already unable to cope?? Get real. Even by the IPCC's own report, the SPM 4th Assessment Report, only an almost imperceptable increase in sea-level rise occurred, only starting arounnd 1993. Starting in 1993, the IPCC says that extra (about) 1 mm rise per year is occurring (they are not even forceful about that estimate). That means (if you believe the +1mm rise/year) that there has been an extra 14 mm in sea level over normal. For us non-metric folks, that is an unplanned deluge of about 0.5 inches. No wonder they are unable to cope!!
The article also states that 100's millions of people live near the coast at an elevation of 1 meter above sea-level and are going have to move. They had better get started now, because at the accelerated rate of 3mm/year, they are going to be inundated within 300 years! It's a good thing that we have the main-stream press to throw up these warning flags, or we would find ourselves in immediate peril!

Ever notice how all the latest scientific global warming declarations have the word "may" in them.
Which means that saying "Antarctic melting may be speeding up" is the exact same thing as saying Antarctic melting may be slowing down.
Amazing how loosely they use the word "may" and then have the audacity to follow up their conclusion with "That debate is over".

This is old info and is not happening. When the Northwest Passage is open again, then we'll be back where were before Gutenberg invented moveable type.

How does one get to be elected a "top world scientist?"

I know that. In fact, most non-IPCC-related scientists know that there is little if any danger from Antarctic melting as most of Antarctica is getting colder rather than warming. Only the Antarctic Peninsula has been warming (rather dramatically), but it is small appendage to Antarctica, and is the farthest north point on Antarctica. As far as the rest of Antarctica melting, even the most rabid of pro-AGW scientists don't really push that idea.

Most don't know that the Northwest Passage was open earlier but frozen by the time of Columbus. When the Northwest Passage is open again, we'll be back where we were; until then we have to ship through the Panama Canal or by air which adds cost to everything.
