If the original photo you were working with showed the polar bears atop the ice flow, I'm wondering if that itself was also photoshopped. The idea is to make the bears look helpless and stranded, in danger of drowning, but that ice flow looks very weathered, and any bears stuck on it when it broke loose would have had plenty of opportunity to get off before it reached its current condition. And it doesn't look like it's something they could have easily climbed onto - it looks too steep and spindly. Or did you also put the bears there? Just wondering . . .
