Both Waters and Lee voted no, I wonder if they even realized what they were voting on?

Rep. Mike Pence quips:

"Here are some examples of what the Democrats consider 'urgent' needs that require 'prompt action: '
-- $25 million for payments to spinach producers
-- $120 million to the shrimp industry
-- $74 million for peanut storage
-- $5 million for shellfish, oyster and clam producers

"Spinach, shrimp, peanuts and shellfish? That's not a war funding bill, that's the salad bar at Denny's."

Another example why we need to spend our time attacking our true enemy the democrats and not our own the GOP.

Exactly right - Those in the GOP base who stayed home last November (and put domestic issues over the WOT) are just as responsible for the further difficulties, worries and uncertainties our soldiers down range will now face (and continue to face for the next year and a half).

Harry Mitchell (AZ-5 - they guy who outsted JD Hayworth): Rep. Mitchell beat the fiscal responsibility drum on his campaign website: “Unfortunately, fiscal irresponsibility and pork-barrel spending has Washington swimming in red ink . . . In Congress, I will promote fiscal policy that is both responsible and accountable, just as I did at the local level.” Now that his own Democratic leadership is the one doing the drowning, will Rep. Mitchell have the courage to just say no? [nope, he voted yes]

The base turned out like it or not....it was the moderates as much as we all hate to admit it. But we are lucky, most moderates are tools and all you have to do is toss them a bone once in a while and they will love you, a moderate 2008 President wouldnt be the worst thing for our electoral prospects, Sam Brownback would.

Meanwhile, certain FReepers expend endless energy going after Rudy Giuliani. Too bad that's all they care about.

Bringing your poor Rudy crap into this thread shows how little you care.

"If our side has any skill at all, getting rid of him in '08 should be like shooting fish in a barrel."

The mountain hippies, greens and Yankee liberal halfbacks who infest Shuler's district are well organized, it will take quite a fight.

There is no such thing as a "blue dog".. they owe all their jobs to the leadership so their strings are pulled like puppets..
They will do whatever it takes to keep employed.

Sounds like a horrible "man"

Actually more like a spineless wimp.

So he is a good guy, but you can't count on him for anything.

Just like the other 'election year' liberal republicans that were calling for Gonzalas to resign (ironically up for re-election)

When is the next vote for Jones?

Good man??? Bah! Good for what?

from Congress to consider spending bills calling for 2008 U.S. combat withdraw from Iraq

The bill is loaded with billions of dollars in earmarks, seemingly included to help attract undecided members. These include:

===

from Democrats add non-military spending, pork to troop funding bill

The supplemental spending bill includes more than $3.7 billion in farm subsidies, $2.9 billion in additional Gulf Coast hurricane relief and $2.4 billion for social programs such as money for rural Northwest school districts, health insurance for poor children, energy assistance for poor families and others.

Not enough to override a definite Presidential veto! There will be many Presidential vetoes from now on for the next two years, and no legislation will always be a much better option than very bad legislation.

By the way, what is suspected to be the largest employer in the state is located either in (I think) or very near his district - I don't think all his constituents who work at the National Security Agency will take too kindly to this.
