Navy disputes war story told by former sailor
Navy Times | 3/19/07 | Hodierne

Posted on 03/22/2007 10:53:53 AM PDT by pabianice

Former sailor in NY Times cover story claims she was repeatedly raped and suffered combat injuries in Iraq. Problem: she never served in Iraq, never reported a rape or injury, and at the time she left the Navy after six years she was still a BUSN (E-3).

Navy Times copyright shrieks preclude posting. However, Link is Here.

That should be "BUCN" since this is a SeaBee rating...

She finally made E3.

Didn't have much time in grade.

"An E-3 after 6 years, and she was Active?!"

Sure, lots of those types in the Navy. Lots of guys getting busted for various stuff, but not thrown out.

Now, she may have been active in a way to keep her in a job. ;)

Apparently not very. WAYYYY back when I was in the USAF you wouldn't make it past 4 years as an E3. Did she get busted for something?

I can't read the article due to a VERY slow connection.

She "thinks" she was in Iraq because of trauma? I'd laugh if it wasn't so pathetic.

P.S. I'm female so, yes, I can laugh at her. None of her story sounds plausible.

remember the joke about 'the fastest way to be an E-4 in Korea is to go there as a Sergeant.'

Lying, skating, sickbay commando skank-bait. Screw her for bringing discredit upon the Naval Service.

I ran a division at a training command made up of the lame, lazy and crazy. She would have fit right in.

I never finished reading the NYT story. I only read about the woman from the Seattle area and little about the blonde, before I got sick of the story. Do you have a link to the original story? I need to find out which woman this is.

The editor of the magazine, Gerry Marzorati, said he now suspects Randall was never in Iraq.

“I think she thinks she was in Iraq,” he said. “I don’t think she was trying to pull the wool over our eyes.”

She thinks she was in Iraq? This NYT magazine editor is a gullible buffoon.

When I finally transferred to the reserves, the guy I gave my service record to said " damn, you're an expert at making e-3...you can make it going up, and then again on the way down"

That's what I figured. Happens all the time in the Army, too, for that matter. I was just wondering if that was normal in the Navy, whose enlisted personnel system always baffled me.

By the way, can we bust Phil Savage down to water boy if they draft Brady Quinn?

I hope he was an enlisted man. Those would be fightin' words coming from a butterbar.

One of the symptoms of an alien abduction is that you don't remember anything about it. Maybe this is similar.
