John Edwards is suspending his campaign for President, and may drop out completely, because his wife has suffered a recurrence of the cancer that sickened her in 2004, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, an Edwards friend told The Politico.
"At a minimum he's going to suspend" the campaign, the source said. "Nobody knows precisely how serious her recurrence is. It’ll be another couple of days before there’s complete clarity."
"For him right now he has one priority which is her health and the security of the two young children," said the friend.
As for the campaign, "You don't shut this machine off completely, but everything will go on hold."
Excellent advice...I haven't read this thread yet, but I hope it was followed.

I'm giving him the benefit of doubt for now till this news settles into reality and they realize her health isn't as great as they hoped
Now if he continue the campaign .. especially if she is at home dying .. then he'll be a selfish POS
Yes, she was; NIH protocols at Chapel Hill. She just decided that others who came before her enabled her to benefit from their treatments and that if she could, those after her would benefit from hers.
After she died, I read through some of the medical reports and the papers she had to sign basically said, "I'm aware I have no chance of survival, so go ahead and do whatever you want to me."
I don't know if I could have signed them.
Cancer of the bone sounds serious to me, and by that I mean, serious enough to at least "suspend" his campaign, but he's not doing that either.

I checked over at DUmmieland...there are a bunch of threads with people posting that they are sending money today to Edwards' campaign.
Just like out of a romance novel, the young "cute" candidate wins on a groundswell of goodwill/admiration/morbid curiosity.

It has been my contention that Politico.com was created to get a dem in the White House in '08. Politico reports first that Edwards is suspending the campaign. Then Edwards announces he is not.
Wow, what strong people the Edwardses are and how much they love their country to fight for it while fighting this terrible disease and not doing what any decent couple would do.
A blot on Politico for getting it wrong? I don't think so. I think the whole thing was planned to "frame" the debate over his staying in.

How did it get that far when she was being monitored? Can it appear and spread that fast between intervals?

I'm thinking things will change once the treatment starts. Some doctor needs to make sure Edwards is aware of what is ahead of them. Perhaps doctors are afraid to let him know because he'll likely sue them, I don't know, but to think you can "manage" brest cancer when it has gone this far is insane.
They are simply not dealing with this the way normal people would.
There is nothing else to say.
John Edwards had a press conference to announce that his wife's cancer has metastasized to the bone, and that he's leaving her side to run a presidential campaign??
