AlGore - Natural CO2 is heavier than man-made CO2. Is this true?

Posted on 03/21/2007 10:31:06 AM PDT by rrr51

I was listening to the hearings and just heard AlGore say that natural CO2, such as CO2 produced by volcanos, is heavier than CO2 produced by man. Did I hear right? Is that what he said? Is it true? Does anybody know?

He was referring to the isotopes of carbon that appear in CO2 from different sources.

What about the CO2 that he keeps emitting by exhaling and talking?

That is blessed CO2 and is exempt from any issue.

"What is he saying, that one has more neutrons than the other?"

What he's saying is that humans are bad, Nature is good. (The First Commandment of the Eco-maniacal Religion) And implying the corollary that Americans are the worst humans.

Algore must have heard the term heavy water and didn't understand that either.

This is why we don't want divinity school drop-outs teaching science.

Good to know his "science" is accurate. Sadly, many will believe.

Momma don't let your lawyers grow up to be chemists

Gore isn't a lawyer. He is an idiot. He dropped out of Law School before they could fail him out.

Yeah, I will pass on drinking deuterium oxide. I hear it will make you sterile.

FWIW, the answer is basically yes. The carbon (and the oxygen) in CO2 can be of different isotopes. They have the same basic chemical interactions but different masses, and therefore possibly different physical effects. So, anyhow, 'natural' CO2 from, say, volcanic eruptions tends to be of the heavier 14C variety whereas hydrocarbon fuel emissions tend to be of the lighter 12C variety. This is basically because plants have a preference for lighter isotopes.

That is pretty ridiculous. There are heavier isotopes of carbon, but I cannot imagine that they make up enough of a fraction of total carbon to even be worth mentioning.

I'll say one thing about the weight of CO2, It's much heavier than the weight of algore's brain.

I can't stop laughing.

Yea those special man made carbon and oxygen atoms eat too much Burger King just like Al Gore thus they are chubbier than volcano CO2 molecules.

Har, har, har.

What is he saying, that one has more neutrons than the other?"

Two oxygen atoms in a CO2 molecule were talking and one said "Hey, I just lost an electron."
The second one asked "Are you sure?"
The other replied "Yeah, I'm positive."

One atom of carbon and 2 atoms of oxygen weigh the same no matter the source. Gore is an IDIOT!

He may be talking about volumes of CO2 related to temperatures, to which he is too stupid to have any business attempting such things that are beyond the scope of his panic-monger brain.

Does he mean a CO2 molecule with carbon-14???

That would be unstable and would break down shortly anyway.
