WASHINGTON - A House panel on Wednesday defied the White House and authorized subpoenas for President Bush’s political adviser, Karl Rove and other top aides, setting up a constitutional showdown over the firings of eight federal prosecutors.
By voice vote and without objection, the House Judiciary subcommittee on commercial and administrative law decided to compel the president’s top aides to testify publicly and under oath about their roles in the firings.
The White House has refused to budge in the controversy, standing by embattled Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and insisting that the firings were appropriate.

Let them go to court and unless there is some motion of illegality the USSC will not hear it.

Protest to the members of the committee and to your state's senators. Easy to find, launch any search engine and type in "[state name] + senator".
Which members of the House panel voted in favor of the subpoenas?
Any Republican turncoats that need to hear from their constituents?
These Congressional Democrats are a bunch of cowards, more concerned about preserving their positions on Capitol Hill than anything else. Don't give in to them.
Their main gripe is apparently that these U.S Attorneys will actually investigate Democrats. How unfair. What a constitutional usurpation.
And for all you "real conservatives" who want the Democrats investigated all the time, you ought to be happy that the Adminstration is trying to do that. And you should be fighting the Democrats who want to prevent it.
I don't remember a lot from high school, but I do recall learning about SEPARATION OF POWERS - 3 branches of government. OK, Bush, the very Constitution of our country is now in your hands!
The separation of powers will be the exact reason the USSC won't hear the case and they'll advise congress to change the law if they don't like it.

Simple, Rove is a Republican and that is illegal. Stalinism is ruling the day now. You simply make your opposition illegal, one step at a time. Now, for example, it is illegal for the President to fire political appointees based upon (gasp!!!) politics.
Or does it mean that MSNBC is guilty of...gasp!...sloppy reporting?

Fire Alberto, clean house at Justice, then tell Congress to go to hell. A win-win.
At this point the only thing that matters is how long it takes for this to work through the courts. Will it be possible to string it out two years? If so, this issue was just removed from the table. If Freepers donate generously to the GOP and retake Congress, the subpoenas would be erased in early 2009.
I don't buy that. They need to be on the record in opposing the subpoenas.
