Yellowstone Supervolcano Making Strange Rumblings

Steam rises from hot springs in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, in a 2002 file photo.

Supervolcanoes can sleep for centuries or millennia before producing incredibly massive eruptions that can drop ash across an entire continent.

One of the largest supervolcanoes in the world lies beneath Yellowstone National Park, which spans parts of Wyoming, Montana and Idaho.

We are doomed, when I came in from lunch I passed by a bank clock that shows time and temperature, at 1:06 it was 59 at 1:07 it was 60 at that rate there is little hope for mankind.

This is much more of a threat than 'global warming'.

In addition to the potential millions that could be killed with an eruption of yellowstone, many millions more could be killed worldwide by the lasting effects on the weather (think global cooling and loss of food production).

Give it a rest guys.

I live fairly close to Yellowstone, and can assure you that we are getting closer to an eruption.

We are closer this year than we have been for many, many years in the past.

I thought all the MSM guys bought ranches in Montana? Ted and Tom. Will they be the first to go?

If so, what is the problem?

There is a supervolcano there and when it blows it will be a big deal but that could easily be longer than in the future than humans have existed - hundreds of thousands of years.

The real news is buried in the story.

>>The findings, reported this month in the Journal of Geophysical Research — Solid Earth, suggest that a slow and gradual movement of a volcano over time can shape a landscape more than a violent eruption.<<

"We are closer this year than we have been for many, many years in the past."

Are you being serious? If so, care to elaborate?

Or are you just being obvious, as in, every day that passes is one day closer to an eruption?

I'm pretty sure that tomorrow, you'll be one day closer still.

The last 'super-volcano' to blow was Toba, 75,000 years ago. It killed almost every human on earth. Read about it at the link below:
