Democratic strategist Bob Beckel admitted, in an interview on Fox News, that Fred Thompson for president would be their worst nightmare. Sounds good to me!

They're afraid. Very afraid...

IMO, GOP has some really good prospects out there, several of whom should keep the Bob Beckel's awake at night. If their best shot is HRC, the GOP will have to foul up big time in 08 not to hold the WH

"...Fred Thompson run would be [their} worst nightmare"... and they'll be crying and shrieking in terror all their way to the White House.

Very strange for a Democrat strategist to say a Republican is their worst nightmare. They must want him to run.

I'd still like to tempt Haley Barbour. He'd drive the 'rats zonkers, like he did when he was in charge of the RNC.

I remember when Fred Thompson broadcast the Republican response to a Clinton speach in 1985 not long after Republicans took over Congress. I thought he looked much more presidential than Clinton.

He only served 1 term in the Senate I believe:
Here is his wikipedia background. Fred Thompson

Yeah, the Democrats had been hoping for a Giuliani nomination, so they could unload both barrels on him. Thompson will give them nightmares, all right.

Of all the outside possibilities, he looks likeliest to me. I don't see any of the other "conservative" candidates getting nominated or elected this time around, although we'd better start grooming some of them for the future.
My Right to Life mailings have been pushing Brownback, but I'm afraid he's a loser, who lost all his credibility when he joined the Democrats in bashing Bush over the war.
Rudy Giuliani is the most impressive candidate out there, but the religious and social issues are a very difficult problem unless he comes around. And I'm not sure that he will.
