The Recliner Commentaries ^ | March 10, 2007 | Dennis

Democratic strategist Bob Beckel admitted, in an interview on Fox News, that Fred Thompson for president would be their worst nightmare. Sounds good to me!

Well, I'm throwing Brownback's fundraising letters in the trash. I've gotten three so far. I'm not quite mean enough to send them back to him postpaid. I reserve that for Democrats and the ACLU. But I'm certainly not supporting him.

Part of the trouble is that some of the other conservatives in the race have been downplaying pro-life support, and that's important to us too. And that's why Brownback is still in the news, because it gives him an opening others aren't exploiting. Newt, for instance, was never very pro-life and currently isn't even mentioning it. I was disillusioned with him toward the end of his last term in congress, frankly, and I won't support him again. It's not easy to find someone you can really trust.

Don't expect Thompson to announce any time soon. I know it doesn't seem like it but the primaries are still a long ways off. If he wasn't already planning a run he probably doesn't have a machine and/or war chest available; that would take some time to get together.

Besides, as long as his name remains favorable, why get involved so early. Let others spen their money and catch the flack now and wait until a more opportune time to announce.

You have a fine grasp of political strategery. I mean that in a good way.

"... they must want him to run ..."

Great point!! That's what I thought the moment I read what Beckel said.

Bob Beckel is a SKUNK in sheeps clothing. Even if Cal Thomas led him to the Lord .. there has not been much conversion in his mind.

Remember what Paul taught us, "renew your mind with the Word of God". Accepting the Lord is only the first step .. now it's up to Bob to FOLLOW Jesus example .. not continue to follow the deceiving, coniving, greedy democrats.

I don't trust him anymore than I trust Dickie Morris (who says he hates Hillary).

If Fred Thompson jumps in and his polling goes to 68% against all others, I predicted it first here on Freerepublic.

I hope FT does run. Even if he doesn't win the nomination,he, like Gingrich, would pull the focus rightward.

Not true at all. What she pulled/had pulled, were the files of GOPers who were in D.C., when she was *gag* First "Lady"; though NOT all of them. I don't remember which letter she stopped at, but it was NOT all of them. That means that she doesn't have Rudy's raw FBI files, for one, and possibly doesn't have the files on some of the others who have thrown their hats in the ring. But she definitely has Newt's! Hey, what was the name of that former bouncer who was 1 of 2 persons put in charge of getting those files? I can't remember for the life of me.

MRS BILL CLINTON is not their best shot (no 2nd Amendment pun intended).

Al Gore is. And he'll likely show up at the 11th hour, or be persuaded to add "gravitas" to an Obama ticket as an "experienced partner" VP.

Now THAT is the GOP's worst nightmare.

Yes but one can be so paranoid that they believe every single thing out of a Democrats mouth is a lie. Sometimes they do unwittingly tell the truth and the real challenge is being able to distinguish the difference.

Everyone has baggage to some degree.

If the democrats can support Bill Clinton and his dirty laundry, then having some baggage is not going to doom any candidate.

Rudy Giuliani is the most impressive candidate out there, but the religious and social issues are a very difficult problem unless he comes around. And I'm not sure that he will.

He is indeed impressive. But when the stuff about the kiss from the gay roomate, the photos in drag and nylons, the affair; and Donna Hanover sure to be holding her tongue until Feb 2008 for maximum destructive effect--Rudy has some huge hurdles that are likely insurmountable. If he was a Democrat, he could have done all this plus molested a child and would still get the nomination. But Fred Thompson has no such baggage whatsoever. I urge Mr Thompson to run and secure a Conservative SCOTUS majority for the next generation. If he is concerned about his 1 and 4 year old children, my wife has told me she will happily babysit whever he needs her if he becomes President. So no worries! ;)
