Bob Beckel: Fred Thompson run would be our worst nightmare
The Recliner Commentaries ^ | March 10, 2007 | Dennis

Democratic strategist Bob Beckel admitted, in an interview on Fox News, that Fred Thompson for president would be their worst nightmare. Sounds good to me!

Congressman Billybob wrote: "Keep in mind that Bob Beckel... certainly doesn't have in mind encouraging the Republicans to nominate their best candidate in terms of winning the election."

We also have to keep in mind that every once in a blue moon, Beckel screws up and lets the truth slip out. Remember that Beckel was the genius who managed Walter Mondale's 1984 presidential campaign, one of the biggest disasters in American electoral history. He ain't the brightest bulb in the fixture...

From what I can find... his position on illegals mirrors the presidents.

Not Really Rudy has been the same way for years and years and year. WE have changed ever since 2006. The tide turned - we got desperate and the Left got smarter.

The only problem with that theory is that Thompson is a big guy...both physically and "aurally." He would overshadow McCain on the ticket.

I can however see it the other way around, which would be interesting. That would strategically unite the party in the primaries, but pull in the McCain independents in the general election.

Yeah...he has been the same. LIBERAL.

Don't misunderstand me - I will (most likely) vote for him if he's the nominee - but I'll certainly work until then to make sure he's not.

Not true at all. What she pulled/had pulled, were the files of GOPers who were in D.C., when she was *gag* First "Lady"; though NOT all of them. I don't remember which letter she stopped at, but it was NOT all of them. That means that she doesn't have Rudy's raw FBI files, for one, and possibly doesn't have the files on some of the others who have thrown their hats in the ring. But she definitely has Newt's!

I'd say it's a touch better than W's - his only three votes on immigration in the Senate seemed to support LEGAL immigration and limiting welfare to them.

Beefy Bob Beckel thinks he could have been the longshoremens union boss in "On the Waterfront". He's always boasting about his hardscrabble Hell's Kitchen upbringing.

But he's really as stupid as a log. I think a Fred Thompson really does give Beefy Bob the vapors. And he blurted so.

Okay then. But if Thompson runs I hope Newt doesn't because then they will take votes from each other and that's not good. I think if Thompson runs Newt should not run.

The "McCain independents" were always Dem shills.

McCain would NEVER take the VEEP spot; his ego wouldn't allow him to do that.

This is the same Fred Thompson who's Senate committee did that bang up job nailing Bill and Al for their Chinese connections? No wonder Beckel is encouraging him to run! The Clintons have already proved they don't need to work up a sweat to squish him. Howard Baker's support confirms my impression. Yes, Fred was a reliable conservative vote and thus a useful back bencher, but when heavy lifting was needed he couldn't handle anything unscripted.

Good. That means he's completely out. ;-) (I suppose they are just like those recently converted Obama Republicans? LOL)

I would vote for almost any of the candidates at this point...except him. Then I'd just have a temper tantrum like a two year old and feel pretty good about myself in the process.

Beckel is an fat, obnoxious windbag. I don't know why anyone here gives a rat's patooty what he thinks, especially after his performance with Alan Colmes last night on H&C. I will thank him for the opportunity to discuss Thompson who I find intriguing as a possible candidate.

I'm not conrcerned about Rudy's past marriages, that's all right out in the open and is a known quantity. Any Dem who makes it an issue needs to tell us if they're okay possible "First Lady Bill" cheating on President Hillary and how his behavior might compromise her ability to make decisions and act in the best interest of the country. Why someone hasn't asked that yet, is beyond me.

The issue really didn't catch fire til he left office... I'm hoping he gets in the mix.

May be a pretty good deal, if Beckel's spewing in advance of Fred's appearance tomorrow am with Chris Wallace.

There was speculation that he would announce he's running on Wallace's show, but I would think he'd make his announcement in a more public setting, with more fanfare. I hope he does announce tomorrow, but I'll be surprised if he does.

How about Giuliani / Thompson '08 ?

Watch, that's our ticket and all the DBM will want to talk about is the fact that Rudy is Italian, so he must be mobbed up. And that middle name of Fred's...
