Well, I thought I was a liberal when I was in my early twenties and had just graduated from College and I would guessno I KNOWthere were many of my generation who believed they were.
And then a funny thing happened. We grew up and realized what idiots we were. My first presidential vote was for Dukakis for crying out loud. Thank God that smarter people than I took the time to vote in that election and save me from myself. If you were one of those folks, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
But now that I'm older and wiser, I see a lot of folks around here unwilling to cut the "youngsters" the same slack that was cut me. Because of my own experience and the very patient people who put up with me...I feel it is my responsibility to extend the same grace to those who are coming after me. I find it shocking that many now say that I'm not a TRUE conservative because of this, that or the other thing. All I can say is if conservatism requires lifelong perfection, I am so out.

My Bush connected friends say otherwise......

This is interesting (hope we don't get accused of hijacking the thread) because I have several relatives who were very conservative during their teen years and twenties but when older they became more liberal. They might well be exceptions.
To: Jane Austen
Yep...there are always a ton of exceptions to every conceivable social pattern.
In any case, enough with the hijacking...although to be honest our conversation is somewhat germane to the topic at hand. But I'll leave it for another thread.

The "underwear changing" picture was a fraud. And I think the Bush girls are VERY good, and Chelsea Clinton was, indeed, photographed drunk.
Cool Chick, eh? Pffft.

Thanks! I still haven't figured out how to do italics. I just learned how to use a computer pretty good and I'm too damn old to learn anything else. LOL

She was saying she'd hope her book would have the same impact as The Diary of Anne Frank did on some moral issue. This does not imply that she thinks she has personally suffered like Anne Frank did, and it takes a severe lack of empathy to wring that meaning out of her comment.
Are you saying that Jenna Bush considers herself a Dutch Jew? Maybe she doesn't know she's a Methodist.
To: Allegra
"And you might want to get off of that pedestal." hmmm....That's what I was thinking about you, and the reason I responded to your post.

That's what I was thinking about you, and the reason I responded to deliberately misinterpreted your post, so that I could use it as an outlet for my own feelings of inadequacy and as an excuse to display my bravado and thump my chest. There. Fixed it. ;-)

Why hate?

Actually, I believe that what she REALLY said was that she hoped that her book would have some of the amount of influence that Anne Frank's did.

Well, all she said was that she merely hoped that her book would have some of the amount of influence that Frank's did on a specific issue.

Actually, I don't believe that Jenna compared herself to Frank. Rather, it seems to me that she merely hoped that her book would have some of the amount of influence on a specifc issue. Not exactly the same thing, IMO.

I don't see what the fuss is about. All Jenna was saying was that she hoped that her book would have a similar amount of influence on a specific issue that Frank's did on another. Thinking about it, I'm not really surprised that a SavageBot would come to the defense of Schussel.

Debbie Schussel is brain dead. This is nothing but a hate piece on Jenna Bush. Maybe Schussel wishes that she could write a book.
