Well, I thought I was a liberal when I was in my early twenties and had just graduated from College and I would guessno I KNOWthere were many of my generation who believed they were.
And then a funny thing happened. We grew up and realized what idiots we were. My first presidential vote was for Dukakis for crying out loud. Thank God that smarter people than I took the time to vote in that election and save me from myself. If you were one of those folks, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
But now that I'm older and wiser, I see a lot of folks around here unwilling to cut the "youngsters" the same slack that was cut me. Because of my own experience and the very patient people who put up with me...I feel it is my responsibility to extend the same grace to those who are coming after me. I find it shocking that many now say that I'm not a TRUE conservative because of this, that or the other thing. All I can say is if conservatism requires lifelong perfection, I am so out.

This is interesting (hope we don't get accused of hijacking the thread) because I have several relatives who were very conservative during their teen years and twenties but when older they became more liberal. They might well be exceptions.
