2007 Daylight Savings Time Changes for Microsoft Windows (How to use Microsoft's Time Zone Edit)

"Microsoft Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, XP (no SP), XP SP1
"These no-longer-supported versions of Windows should use the tzedit.exe utility to reset the Daylight Time change dates for your time zone. Here are the instructions, and also links to download tzedit.exe in case you can't find it on your Windows installation CD. Versions of tzedit are available for all levels of Windows, from 95 to XP. Tzedit is compatible with all application software. The alternative timezone.exe utility should not be used, because it is not compatible with some applications such as Lotus Notes.
"Using tzedit.exe avoids the need for (risky!) registry modifications described elsewhere. (It makes them for you, correctly, under the covers.) ....
This article explains how to use a small Microsoft tzedit.exe program that edits time zones directly via a point and click without patches or registry edits. I've tried it and it is simple to use and it works directly on the selected time zones.

Open a command window (DOS)
Type TIME
Change the time one hour

am I the only nerd on the block that isn't worried about "fixing" the time change on my computers?
Are they going to blow up or something if left alone?
Should I start gathering dried beans and ammo?

I agree. I feel like I'm missing something. In the past few weeks I've heard a lot of chatter about the steps one should take in order to deal with the upcoming time change.
I have never had to do much of anything before. So why is March 2007 such a special event???

Why can't I just double click on the time indicator in the bottom right hand area of my taskbar and change the time, click OK and relax?

Supposedly, because it is happening 2 weeks early this year. To me, it seems like another Y2K scare. I could be wrong.

It's happening 3 weeks before it used to occur! Your operating system, among other things, was programmed to change the time on the first Sunday of April, not the second Sunday in March. Thus... the rub.

If you have XP, haven't they issued updates to deal with this?

ok...that's not a binary possibility
if you add 2=7 you get 9
then push the 11 behind you get ..... 911
3 stands for March

I'm a server analyst, and I can assure you that it's Y2K-like in our circles! MANY people will be adversely affected by this.

Registry modifications and obscure DOS command-line programs. What a crock of used food. Windows blows. The only thing Microsoft makes that isn't total crapware is Office, which is only moderately crappy.
My Mac automatically downloaded and installed a safe, secure fix for the Daylight Savings Time change weeks ago.

It's not like I'm not going to have change every other clock myself.

Well, as I said, I could be wrong. If you are a server analyst, you know what you are talking about. So how should we address this?
